Raymond Wong’s Role in “Overachievers” Earns Praise

Portraying a manipulative playboy in TVB Anniversary series Overachievers <名門暗戰> for the first time, Raymond Wong (黃浩然) is glad that his character, Hugo, has been popular among viewers so far.

Although Raymond’s character slowly turns around to becoming one of Wayne Lai’s (黎耀祥) worst adversaries, viewers are still continuously warming up to Hugo. Online netizens expressed their anticipation in more interaction between Hugo, Man (Nancy Wu 胡定欣), and Cheung Yuen (Wayne Lai).

Pleased with the positive reception of Overachievers, Raymond said, “[The fans] also want me to end up with Nancy. I’m afraid that my relationship with Nancy won’t be established within a few episodes, but I’m glad that the reception is very good!”

Only five episodes may have aired, but Hugo is beginning to turn the tables on Wayne already. Unafraid that viewers will be angry at Hugo’s transformation into a villainous character, Raymond added, “I actually hope they scold me!”

Takes Health into Consideration

Almost fully recovered from Bechet’s Diease, Raymond has re-prioritized his health first. Although Raymond dropped out of filming for Captain of Destiny <張保仔> to treat his condition, he said he will try to not to reduce his workload, but will merely pay more attention to his well-being.

On the recent news of Sonija Kwok’s (郭羨妮) miscarriage, Raymond explained that he was not aware of the incident prior to the news report surfacing last week. Raymond said, “The last time we saw each other was when we were filming Under the Veil <無雙譜>. I hope she feels better soon!”

  1. Glad Raymond Wong is finally playing something different they always typecast him in certain roles. He finally has a chance to shine and love his pairin with nancy they look so good together and age appropriate. Love their chemistry.

  2. Raymond’s first role was in ATV’s Central Affairs. He also got a villainous role and he was good !

    1. Yeah I know i saw central affairs. but in Tvb they always make him the dorky spoiled best friend. He needs more meatier roles like this and the bottled passion type because he’s a great actor that doesn’t get much recognition

  3. He’s doing well thus far. Looking forward to his development with Nancy.

  4. Puhleez, every time someone plays an OTT villain, he gets praises for his acting. I think it’s far more difficult to act as a good guy without appearing too good to be true or a gray character. Those roles are far more challenging for any actor.

    1. very true, good characters are much harder to act without being too boring or too fake. it’s quite easy to be the villain because the expressions and behaviors are much more obvious. good guys have more subtle behaviors that are harder to act out.
