Produced by Marco Law <西遊記>, TVB wuxia drama Ghost Dragon of Cold Mountain <寒山潛龍> will premiere on Monday, June 30, taking over the prime-time slot that is currently occupied by the mainland Chinese drama, Journey to the West <西遊記>. The 30-episode series stars Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Ngo Ka Nin (敖嘉年), Power Chan (陳國邦), Selena Li (李詩韻), Lin Xiawei (林夏薇), Raymond Cho (曹永廉), Lau Kong (劉江), and Ram Chiang (蔣志光).

Synopsis

The Tin Kei Agency of the Northern Song, an investigation agency specializing in solving strange cases in the kingdom, is headed by the wise Fung Nam Tin (Lau Kong), who leads a group of extremely well-trained constables. His favorite apprentice, Chu Cheung Sing (Kenneth Ma), is wisdom and courage embodied in one, but Nam Tin and Cheung Sing end their partnership when they fail to come to a consensus on how to solve a particular case. Cheung Sing ends up leaving the agency to live a simple and peaceful life with his wife, To Fa (Selena Li).

Ten years later, the aging Nam Tin orders three of his most-skilled apprentices – Ma Chuen Kung (Power Chan), Ngau Tai Lik (Ngo Ka Nin), and Yeung Mau (Lin Xiawei) – to reach out to Cheung Sing and convince him to return. Cheung Sing agrees to work with the agency again, but his personality often clashes with his three partners, causing the four to frequently fight. Meanwhile, Cheung Sing is separated from his wife, but his feelings become conflicted when he ends up meeting a prostitute who looks exactly like her.

Cheung Sing learns that the opposing Jurchen kingdom has placed a mole within the Tin Kei Agency and his good friend, Hung Sap Kau (Raymond Cho) is exploited by the enemy. Cheung Sing does not know whom to trust. The line between friend and foe continues to be blurry.

      1. That was exactly what I was thinking. I am happy that it is an ancient series but wonder if it will be a repeat of the four.

  1. The poster looked good until I saw 林夏薇 right in the front. Come on, don’t make her the lead! The male cast is solid.

    1. Yea, you know that girl can’t act when you google her, and see one snapshot of a drama she’s in, and could see how wooden and dead she is.

I just hope she’s not a love interest for MM, nor the series devote a lot of time on her character

    2. Same. In fact, I don’t like Selena Li that much as well. Both of them don’t look like lead material. But it’s harsh for Selena Li considering she’s more experienced and yet she’s being pushed to the back for someone who isn’t even well-liked by the general public.

      1. at least 林夏薇 acting is a lot better than aimee chan

      2. Lin xia wei dogs have the look of ancient wuxiafeatures & face just like tavia yung

    3. Actually I think Lin Xia Wei is great compare to many other TVB actresses. She is one of the few who had an acting degree in TVB.

      1. Lin Xiawei/林夏薇 has an acting degree and still sucks? Shameful.

  2. wow, i waited till my neck became really long…finally…chinese journey to the west is over! what a torturous wait…for a wuxia drama.

  3. Lately, Tvb dramas have been on about undercovers/moles like aimee chan in the terrorist drama, kate tsui in the finance drama, and now this drama

  4. Wow 30 episode…………….. So they are not gonna air Wayne Lai series anymore.

    1. I really want to watch Wayne’s series. It’s a bad decision that tvb made to replace Wayne’s series with mainland JTTW. Also awaiting for trade war drama

  5. Weak cast. Expect the ratings to be in the low 20s.

    1. There is more to a series than just the cast, the plot and all are more important.

      1. Not entirely true. Just read the many comments here. How many times have you read comments such as “I’ll skip this cos i can’t stand *** ” or “I’ll watch this cos i love ***”? Anyway, not only the cast, esp females, sound boring, the plot sounds like a yawn too. Besides, period dramas hv never been Tvb’s forte. And don’t forget the World Cup distraction is likely to hv some impact. Predict this will be another bomb.

      2. Agree, if they cast has bad acting, it makes it less enjoyable!

      3. @lol,
I did not say that the cast did not matter at all,but there are other things more important than just the cast. A good cast and a bad storyline and script is even less enjoyable, Sadly, TVB seems to be lacking in all aspects lately.

I also strongly disagree that ancient series were never TVB’s forte. Back in the 80s and 90s,,ancient series were what TVB was famous and popular for. I guess you were either to young to remember all of the classics to just did not watch those to say that ancient series were never TVB’s forte.

      4. Hts, it seems like you like ancient series. Too bad tvb only makes like 4 a year. Tawian makes 2 a year. China makes like 30 a year. Guess you will have to watch china dramas.

      5. @HTS
Similarly, i didn’t say that plot isn’t impt. Say, we give a drama with a good plot to a bunch of newbies or unknowns who have little or no acting experience, will they be able to do justice to the plot? Why do you think producers (I’m not just referring to TVB) pay top dollars to attract big stars to act in their projects? For the pull factor that their names bring and perhaps their acting talent. Did you just read one of the comments here? Someone said ” Yucks!Lin Xia Wie= skip!” – my point exactly that many people look at the cast to determine if they’ll watch a particular drama.
When i said that period dramas aren’t TVB’s forte, I’m referring to present time, not some time in the 80s or 90s, i thought that was understood. Interestingly, a lot of people condemn present TVB dramas and paint a wonderful glowing picture of TVB dramas from the 80s or 90s. I agree that the 80s and 90s had some really good dramas but not all were good. Often, the sets looked tacky and cheap and the story line draggy. Not everything is great as some readers here would like us to think.

      6. At least TVB dramas 80s and 90s were better than China and Korean dramas that everyone is watching now. Talk about improvement with times. None at all. Majority of China and Korean dramas scripts are so bad that they are laughable.

      7. For me, cast is the determining factor. It’s for this reason that i don’t watch dramas other than TVB cos i don’t like unfamiliar faces. Even TVB dramas, i watch selectively those which i like the cast.

  6. I like the whole cast especially Selena but not a fan of Raymonds cousin hope they wont make her the lead in this series

  7. Excited for a period costume drama. None of the hk dramas pique my interest lately

  8. Well the series looks interesting. I can’t wait!

    1. I Know. I’ve been waiting for this to come out! Just only 2 more weeks 😀

  9. It also looks like a blend of Relic of an Emissary.

  10. Im very disappointed this is another solving case series but set in ancient times. I want an old fashioned wuxia :'(

  11. I’m really looking forward to this, I hope they don’t ruin it.

  12. Well I can feel the ratings are going to be in the low 20’s and the drama is too long. They need to keep to short and straight to the point.

    1. Please give this drama a chance please, you never seen it yet.

  13. I will watch, just like Fred’s theme song!!!

  14. To be honest. I’m kinda disappointed with the new story line. It’s police drama set in ancient time. It does not feel very wuxia.

I prefer the one in the sales presentation clip. That one feels more wuxia.

    1. dont mind if it is a police drama set in ancient time,if they have a good storyline and many good wuxia scenes than im satisfied.

  15. The synopsis looks indeed boring and old school. It will not be a surprise if the rating is only 20-22. I like the female cast and male supporting cast but not a fan of male lead so I will give it a try for first 5 eps.

    1. Rating of 20-22, come on give tvb a chance. I think this series will be at least 30 or higher.

      1. 30 or higher? Lolz, I really doubt it can come true because even the grand, highly promoted series now cannot reach to 30. At this moment, 25 is enough for a celebration and 27 is king of rating.

      2. I actually do not understand why all 14 tvb dramas all are under 29 rating. What is wrong with tvb this year? They say they will save it since 2013. Somehow 2013 is lot more better than 2014 year.

      3. Because the quality of Txb recent series are too bad. I watched a part of some highlighted series and oops, boring at max. The storylines are nonsense.

      4. There is no chance of getting at least 30 points these days. TVB is in a restructuring mode. TVB hopes all series to say in the high 20’s…. unless there is a rare occurrence if the story & performance is very good

  16. look boring lol even tho i like raymond cho and ma ming.

  17. hi there

    1. what’s wrong with selena?
    2. gal is hot and can perform well.

  18. I remember the days when all tvb dramas had over ratings of 25. Good ones could go up to 30-35 and loved ones were 40+! Time can show how things can change

  19. The casts don’t interest me at all. Not gonna watch it.

But I’m quite liking bosco, nancy and kate’s show currently. The only bad thing is that this trio’s screentime is too short!

  20. I dun want to watch cos I dun like Lin xia Wei or Selena li… I don’t want to watch coz the cast is young, or this is another detective solving mystery or etc etc etc

Boy! Ppl who thinks like that are really very into their fantasy world. TV / Drama serial is a form of escapism not reality, ppl… Being judgmental even before watching it or watching the first 3 episode only is really laughable.
