Wayne Lai Hopes for More Screen Time With Liza Wang

TV King, Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), flew to Tianjin for three days to guest star in Wong Jing’s (王晶) new mainland Chinese drama, World of Turbulence <風雲天地>. Wayne expressed confidence in Wong Jing’s productions, and he reportedly received lucrative offers upon invitation. Wayne was also excited to star alongside Liza Wang (汪明荃).

Unfortunately, it turns out that Wayne and Liza only share one scene together. In the drama, Wayne portrays Liza’s husband. After he passes away, Liza raises their three children on her own. Since the young version of Liza’s character is portrayed by Selena Li (李詩韻), Wayne and Liza barely have any scenes together.

Wayne expressed his disappointment, “We only share one scene, and that’s not enough. In fact, the scene we share is part of a hallucination. My character lost money from his stock shares and had to die. Afterwards, whenever Liza’s character faces hardship, she reminisces the conversations we had together. Her hallucination is the only scene we share!” In 2005, Wayne and Liza collaborated in When Rules Turn Loose <識法代言人>, but their storylines did not overlap.

However, Wayne recalled the time Liza invited him onstage to an event at Olympian City. He said, “I think her presence is very powerful. She is a very professional actress. I’m looking forward to future collaborations, where we will actually share scenes.”

Despite the Hong Kong crew and cast, World of Turbulence is backed by mainland investors, which enabled it to pay staff according to higher mainland market rates. In regards to reports claiming Wayne was offered large amounts of money to act as a guest star in World of Turbulence, he denied and said, “It’s a normal amount of money. I’m a good value. I accepted the job because I haven’t participated in Wong Jing’s dramas in over ten years.” Wayne added, “Every one of his productions is guaranteed to be well-received. My schedule also works out, so of course I’m happy to take part.”

Selena Li Cried for Ten Days Straight

Cast as the young version of Liza’s character, Selena spent ten days filming depressing scenes that often spoke of loved ones passing away. Although work was tedious, Selena has gained a lot of knowledge as an actress. “In one scene, my mother-in-law passed away from illness, and I had to hug my three sons in the midst of a big storm. Our house was torn by the wind, and the production team made everything look very realistic. The script was also well-written, putting me in tears just by reading it.”

Since Selena had to cry constantly and experience many emotional ups and downs, large eye bags made appearance after filming was completed. “It’s all worth it though, because I really learned a lot.”

  1. Wow! It has been long time no seeing you in this web page; I miss you very much, Wayne Lai. Hoping that the series Will Power will soon released so that I can watch your skillful acting. I wish you getting the TV King award at Huading Award ceremony in October. Good luck.

  2. Same here, can’t wait for Wayne’s new drama, Will Power. Good luck to him! Love his acting

    1. @Sheldon, Do you remember going to wed Starhub tvb award to vote best actor for Wayne? just 2 days left.

  3. Haha after Bullet Brain I’m not sure about Wayne anymore. There are some actors that are still enjoyable to watch even if the story is bad cause of their screen presence or general charisma, and Wayne just does not seem to have it. it seems Wayne only excels in a limited number of roles.

    1. Wayne was still enjoyable in bullet brain. The script was the part that failed. Wayne was basically the only one to hold the drama, the rest (most of them are extras and nobodies) were newbies. Sire ma is the worst. The episodes without her was basically normal. Wish she was cut from the drama, it would have been much better

    2. So who are some actors that you think “is still enjoyable to watch even if the story is bad cause of their screen presence or general charisma” ?

For me, I can not name one (in those cases like Bullet Brain). Whenever I watch the series sucks, no matter how I love the actor in that series, I will still pass it, even my beloved Gallen Lo.

  4. I hope wayne wll do good in will power hope he wont be a mess like FH3

    1. He was good in FH3 and this series got high rating too; with this series he also was one of the top five best actors.

  5. chilam and francis ng is ahead and more attractive than this stupid actor.

    1. Well I don’t think chilam acted great in tits2. He just have the looks and that’s it.

      1. I don’t agree with your comment because i think Chi Lam is a good actor like Wayne.

    2. I think Wayne is not too stupid like you because he got three time TV King and you got nothing. A comment is persuaded when it is written politely.

    1. I agree. I feel like Wayne is more versatile (though not to say Chilam isn’t a good actor as well).

I miss Wayne. Soooo ready to see his chemistry with Moses in Will Power.

      1. Hope Wayne gets offered 50 million dollars soon he deserves it if Wayne better then chi lam

      2. FH3 was good and interesting. Wayne was good too although there was not much breakthrough in the character he played. But he was brilliant & charming!

Look forward to his new collaboration with Moses and Christine Ng in Will Power!

    2. If Wayne better then chi lam silly tvb should have gotten Wayne to do chi lam role

      1. Both Chi Lam and Wayne are good actors just Chi lam is more handsome and younger than Wayne so that Chi Lam get more opportunities.

      2. Jayden Koo needs to be tall, suave, and heart-breakingly handsome. However good Wayne’s acting is, he can’t change the way he looks. 😉

      3. Why does Wayne have to be cast as Jayden from TITS 2 to show his worth? Also, Wayne was busy filming Bullet Brain, how could he film 2 series at the same time?

      4. wayne doesn’t have to be cast as anything to show his worth it.. but I agree silly tvb they have wayne a great actor so next TITIS 3 maybe they could use wayne and wont need to go out and get outside actors

  6. I’m quite anticipating this series. TVB hasn’t make a good family conflict drama in a long time.

When done well like classic series The Big Family and Cold Blood, Warm Heart etc. it is quite an engrossing experience.

  7. The three sons will grow up to be Kenny, Edwin and Hawick. Looking forward!

  8. I will watch this series for first part only because Wayne just a guest star for first some episodes. I have no interested for the cast except Wayne.
