• after last year, i've already lost hope in tvb listening to what the audience has to say about who deserves the awards but below are what i feel should be the winners this year. best drama: life on the line i think this drama definitely deserves this award because it was touching, had a great cast, stuck to the topic with some love stories and had loads of discussion. most importantly, it had good ratings, which is very important to tvb bosses lol. tbh, i feel like tvb's dramas this year aren't that great so i honestly didn't know which drama i would root for until i watched this. best actor: joe ma / vincent wong honestly, i think joe did absolutely fantastic in life on the line and acted natural and made the audience touched. each and every line was done well and after watching him this time i really have begun to like him a lot more. the only downside is that he isn't a tvb managed artist but i think he deserves it this year. the alternative choice for me would be vincent, although he already got this award last year, i can't see anyone better on the list and although fist fight has only aired for a week, i do like his role and his acting is good, so if he got best actor again i think it would be reasonable. best actress: mandy wong / ali lee mandy's performance in threesome this was really good and her acting as female lead has definitely caught the eye of many audiences. i also think she is capable of winning best actress after winning sg and malay's award, so hopefully she gets the award because she's worked hard these few years. the only bad thing being that threesome did not have a good airing slot at all, it was on the weekend and ratings were low. if not mandy, then i think ali deserves this award too because since last year, her performances have been absolutely exceptional and she really was amazing in bb is here, plus the good ratings proves how much people love her. favourite male character: carlos chan / chris lai i really liked carlos in daddy cool, he was a fresh new face, had good acting skills and gained lots of recognition. although, he's not a tvb managed artiste, he really deserves this award because he had the right expressions and everything his character needs. my other choice is chris lai, he was great alongside ali in bb is here, i've been liking him since come home love but bb is here really made me have an even better impression of him. he's had loads of experiences and this year, he's definitely done well. favourite female character: ali lee assuming mandy gets best actress, i think ali would definitely be the perfect choice for favourite female character. from all the feedback i've heard from her role in bb is here, many say that she was the main reason people even watched that drama, and i do agree to some extent. she really kept the drama alive and played her role pretty on point. best supporting actor: joey law / bob cheung i genuinely don't have any favourites for best supporting actor this year, but if i had to choose it would be these two because they really have done well in life on the line and literally made me cry so many times. i'm pretty sure they won't get this award as they are still pretty new and still need to brush up their acting skills a bit just to gain more experience, but as supporting actors they did great. best supporting actress: jeannie chan jeannie was my favourite in life on the line. her acting was probably the best and i can see lots of improvement, especially her touching crying scenes with law lan. i really hope she gets this award, but she's not a a tvb managed artiste so i don't think so, but she did really well. i would've also picked lenna yeung for bb is here, but pity that she doesn't have a nomination, i think she deserves a nomination as she did a great job. (tbh, supporting actor/actress this year is really unpredictable as no one had an exceptional performance but hopefully whoever wins is reasonable!) most improved male artiste: matthew ho i think matthew did great in life on the line. his character, was acted out well and he made it sad, he made it funny. he definitely has potential in the future and has been one of my favourites these few years. out of the list, he definitely has done the best this year although the other participants i'm all fine with. most improve female artiste: crystal fung i've been look at crystal's performances since she won miss hk 2016 and she's done well in almost everything. she can act, host and she's pretty. i think she really well for her first drama in apple-colada and i totally got the vibe she was trying to bring out. her crying scenes were also pretty good for a first time. she's also a great host, she's absolutely hilarious in young & restless and i can see her becoming a very successful artiste in the coming years. i wouldn't mind roxanne tong either, but i felt like last year, her performance impressed me more. kelly cheung is also good, she's nice and fresh and her acting is acceptable for a newbie, i feel like she has a higher chance of getting this award this year as she is being heavily promoted next year. anyone on the list is good, so i don't mind. best on-screen partnership: f4 (matthew ho, joey law, bob cheung, arnold kwok) i personally loved these four from life on the line and the bromance between them. they were hilarious in every way possible and i liked their friendship in the drama. they're also four handsome guys that have done well this year.
  • @llwy12 moon is the female lead of life on the line. i feel like kelly barely had much screen time compared to moon and jeannie (not that they had much in general) as the drama was mainly focused on the male leads.
  • @emiliachan It's not how you rank it. Being a couple with the main actor Joe makes Kelly the main lead in one way of another because it gives her exposure. Can't be 3rd lead at all. It can happen though where an actress can couple with lead but not seem to be the main lead like in Overachievers where Maggie did not have many scenes but linked up with Wayne late on...
  • @jimmyszeto thats because moon and jeannie are first and second lead, kelly is only third lead. but i do agree with you, kelly is kinda 'extra' in life on the line and her actings not that great.
  • i'm 100% sure that moon lau is the main female lead for this drama! don't understand why the media keeps saying its kelly just because her role is dating joe ma. i think kelly is a very good host but her acting isn't particularly good, she's just pretty. her role in this drama is also very unnecessary so i'm not a big fan of her right now.
  • @emiliachan I didn't know about the original casting info. Chris Lai would have been fine but I think Jonathan is doing pretty well. Tony Hung would have been TERRIBLE. Really, really terrible.
  • i really like succession war as a drama. the cast is really good for a tvb drama these days. one of the main things this drama caught my eye is also because of one ep = one day, i think this concept is new and pretty cool. as for the cast, ruco's acting is definitely amazing and brings out the character well, so i have nothing against him. shaun tam really does not catch my eye, his expression and voice is often the same but i'm gonna give him a chance since it's his first tvb drama. for the girls, selena and elaine are both good actresses and i think elaine is doing especially well in this drama. even natalie (which i didn't like after she got the award) exceeded my expectations. for jonathan and joel, their acting is acceptable. all the girls have good acting and look so pretty. and the little boys are so cute <3 p.s. if you didn't know, originally chris lai was meant to act jonathans role and tony hung for shaun tam. (does anyone think they would've been better or worse, just curious..) to be honest, this drama is produced extremely well and has a good cast and story line but the reason why it's ratings are falling is because of the world cup and the consecutive ancient dramas. the only thing i don't like about the drama is the white angel clan (idk what its called in eng), that part is boring and a bit unnecessary. ditroc is definitely not my cup of tea, although these two dramas are both headline and largely promoted dramas, succession war is way better in my opinion. just the fake colours in ditroc already hurts my eyes after watching the first half hour so i stopped. i have looked at snippets after that and it just looks like a lot of actresses having drama between themselves and does not have anything historically interesting. for succession war i'm actually excited to watch every night. hopefully, this drama's ratings can go up because i had high expectations for it and i genuinely think its a really good drama. since world cup is finished i hope people start watching it and raise the ratings!!
  • they make a matching couple!! but they don't share the same birthday lol.
  • i don't see how half of these girls are in the 'beautiful' category because they may look nice but if you compare with others they are not beautiful at all. i only agree with eliza sam, tracy chu, kelly cheung and ali lee. i think jacqueline wong, moon lau, roxanne tong, grace wong, grace chan, zoie tam, jeannie chan and kaman kong deserve to be on this list and are the real goddesses of tvb (right now).
  • @kaykay i agree with your opinion a lot except for mat, he can win it but the others on the list out shone him to me. and not only did moon not make top 5 on supporting actress, she actually didn't get nominated for supporting actress which is the BIGGEST disappointment to me as well as ali not getting nominated for legal mavericks. everyone else i agree with you!!
  • tvb should put natalie in more lead roles because she's nearly always second lead and it is not fair for her to win because she was second lead in my unfair lady. it's not that she can't act, just that the award should only go to female leads.
  • i noticed vincent a long long time ago and when he took male lead on brick i started noticing all his dramas, he was so good and it's really great to see him winning best actor. as for kenneth, getting favourite male actually suits him, he should've gotten best male back when he filmed on call 36 II because i loved his performance there but he also only got favourite male then. feel a bit sorry for him but maybe he'll get best actor in the next few years!
  • this years awards came as a pretty big surprise for me and it wasn't in a good way. first of all, mat yeung only got the improved male because he had been nominated at least 5 times, it should've went to matthew instead as he received it in singapore and malaysia with a great performance. i think mayanne actually deserves the improved actress because she's a great host, anyone on the list was good. rebecca winning supporting actress was totally wrong, elaine did way better. i think i'm most annoyed about joel winning supporting actor because it totally should've went to owen. joel's acting is so boring and his role was easy, whereas owen has been working hard all year presenting his audiences with amazing drama performances, especially gogo in legal mavericks. i think kenneth getting favourite male is definitely accurate, i didn't really want him to get best actor anyways but i hope he can get best actor in the coming years. sisley getting favourite female was so weird, i don't know how she got all the votes which makes me speculate if tvb made the decision, would've been more right to give her most improved actress because she did really well in legal mavericks. best actor vincent!! extremely happy for him, he deserves it so much and hope he continues to do great. fantastic job on all 3 of his dramas. best actress natalie... she's a good actress but not good enough for best actress and i don't like how she got it for being second lead. if jessica came it would've went to her and if ali's nomination was for legal mavericks and not my ages apart it would definitely be the most suitable for ali. i think ali did well in all her dramas which makes me kind of disappointed she didn't get any awards. as for the drama award, i think it should've went to legal mavericks or exorcist's meter instead. really don't see what was so good about my ages apart besides the cast. and hubert also deserves the best theme song award. congrats to all, but i hope next year tvb gives the awards to people that actually deserve it, not to people that need the title so they become more famous.
  • i agree with this article a lot, i think tavia dressed really nicely, niki also pretty. i feel like a lot of tvb artistes did last minute outfits and many that normally dress really nicely looked disastrous. i think rebecca, natalie and jacqueline actually dressed the best. but the fashion in this year's awards have definitely degraded.
  • wow, can't believe they're back together. but i do like this couple <3 hope the report is actually true.
  • i'm going to give this drama a chance, i think it'll be alright. although the actresses/actors don't appeal to me, i really want to see katy kung because her acting has improved so much. grace chan.. only has a pretty face.
  • @melia880 i agree too, moon, sisley and tracy have done great performances in the past few years but they haven't really been getting awards at the tvb ceremony. but looking at the list now i'd probably go for zoie tam. i'm loving her performance in my ages apart !!
  • @coralie i guess you are kind of right, but i feel like if she was nominated for legal mavericks it would be better, because she also won best actress for it at starhub. i have seen her performance in my ages apart but there are so many characters in that drama, it would be way harder for her to get the award. but i still want her to win!
  • i think this year's nomination list is messed up and totally wrong. some people just got put in the wrong category. i really hope vincent wong wins best actor this year because his performance in legal mavericks was so good. i think kenneth ma also deserves the award but i'm definitely leaning to vincent. i was hoping that ali lee would win best actress for legal mavericks this year but tvb clearly thinks it too early for her therefore putting her as my ages apart instead. i don't really have a favourite for best actress but i think it should probably go to jessica hsuan or elena kong. for supporting actor, hands down i'm rooting for owen cheung, he did extremely well this year and i watched every single drama he was in. i know there's a hype about joel chan but his role in unholy alliance was so cliche and boring. for supporting actress, i would've totally given it to moon lau but tvb is stupid and decided to not put her on the list. tbh i don't really see who else deserves it but samantha ko or elaine yiu would be my next choices. i really hope legal mavericks wins best drama because it had good ratings in mainland china, if tvb put it from mon-fri it would've received great ratings. i also think the exorcists meter was really good and it has really good ratings. tiger mom blues was also a good one but it probably was from too long ago. i hope any of the above win it because i will scream if unholy alliance, heart & greed 3 or my ages apart get it because the overall drama was a poor performance. i hope moon lau gets most improved actress this year although she deserved it more last year, she did equally well this year. sisley choi definitely improved a lot this year so she could be another choice. for most improved male actor i would pick matthew ho because he's just been doing really well, although i have a feeling it might go to owen cheung if he doesn't get supporting actor. but all i can do is hope that tvb gives awards to people who actually deserves them.
  • @lewismcchan exactly, alice chan's role was a guest appearance whereas moon was supporting actress in the exorcists meter.
