• "Yup, pretty soon I will have to go dust off my collection of old TVB series (and variety programs) and re-watch those if I want my TVB fix…." @llwy12 Actually Korea copied some Hong Kong dramas. So their dramas are very similar to TVB. Hit The Top (Korean drama) -> Raymond Wong's time traveling drama - Korea drama copied a lot from HK drama Cruel City (Korean drama) -> Line Walker Signal/Manhole (Korean dramas) -> To get Unstuck in Time (All of them copied Frequency the movie)
  • RIP. Hopefully now she is with God and her family members.
  • @hetieshou Some other people near death experiences. https://www.near-death.com/experiences/notable/howard-storm.html
  • Actually Korea remade some dramas from Hong Kong, but they just didn't state it was remade. So I won't be surprised if next time the more popular dramas in Hong Kong gets remade by Korea. Like the Raymond Wong's time traveling drama has been remade by Korea and its name is the Best Hit/Hit the Top. https://mydramalist.com/22605-hit-the-top They just changed some details, but the storyline is the same.
  • @llwy12 Investors come and go. The moment TVB isn't worth his investment, they will go. Nothing lasts forever in this world. TVB also used to have China audiences in the past when RRS was around.
  • "Unlike modern series, ancient dramas require elaborate and expensive sets, costumes, and props. Especially with wuxia films, the addition of software enhancements for martial arts scenes can become costly in the filming budget." They can produce modern fantasy series. Like Korea's "W", "I'm not a robot", "Are you human?". Or like The Flash.
  • @kk12345 In TVB’s eyes though, it makes sense. Who needs Malaysia, Singapore, and all the other overseas markets when they have the lucrative Mainland China market to tap into? It’s basically a numbers game...there are 1.4 billion people in China and majority of those people watch some form of Chinese programming — TVB’s current top exec is Mainland investor Li Ruigang (supposedly he’s Asia’s equivalent of Rupert Murdoch) who has major connections all across Mainland (including the crucial connections in the Central government) and supposedly he has ambitious plans to convert all those audiences to watching TVB. None of their other overseas markets have a comparable sized market of potential Chinese viewers so it makes sense that they would want to chase the market that would potentially give them the best return on their investment. Plus if we think about it, it’s technically easier for TVB because Mainland audiences aren’t as picky as HK audiences — they can give Mainland audiences crappy series and they will still gobble it up because those audiences view TVB series as different from the same old boring fare they’re used to getting and most importantly, those audiences actually view TVB series as having higher quality than their own series (at least that’s what TVB’s management team thinks based on the comments they’ve made in public supporting their switch to focusing on Mainland market).
  • @llwy12 "The latest move is cancelling the Astro Awards and basically pulling out of the Malaysia market altogether." That's a silly move. With no more market left, who will want to watch their shows. They should just close shop and buy shows from other countries, and stop producing their rubbish shows. Nowadays their shows lack quality.
  • @kk12345 Thanks but I honestly do not believe in heaven and all as none of us know if it truly exists or not. Even if it did, how many of us can truly make it there? I think we will not know where we truly go until we die. I like the character of ZWJ as he is realistic. He has a kind heart and many good traits.YG’s character is not realistic but it is just a novel so we can understand. Out of the 4 girls I like XZ the most as she is the most loyal and kind one. Zhu ZhiRuo is vicious but you feel sorry for her as she got rejected by the one she loves most. ZM is ok and I feel bad for her too but she is lucky that ZWJ chose her in the end.
  • @hetieshou Lastly, I have to say Heaven is our permanent home, but earth is our temporal/temporary home. So I am excited to be there one day.
  • It is sad that everyone has to go through illnesses and sicknesses, before being able to pass on to the afterlife. Life sucks.
  • It is sad to lose a family member. Life sucks.
  • @hetieshou Heaven is a beautiful place made of jasper, emerald, sapphire, topaz and other beautiful jewels. It has streets made of gold. It is a beautiful place, but most importantly we get to be with our loved ones there. Not only our loved ones, but also our pets and friends that we once lost. But it is the waiting that gets hard sometimes. The waiting can be 30 years and longer. But at least the kids are there to comfort you and lend a listening ear. https://mydramalist.com/shows/top I use this website to see which shows are nice, it has grading for china dramas as well. I think Zhang Wuji is the most human character that I ever read about. He has a tragic past, is wishy washy. They are traits that I can identify with. Yang Guo, on the other hand, is unrealistic as there are very few people in this world who is young that is willing to wait for a girl for 16 years. Most people will get married to other people during the 16 years. I can't bring myself to dislike Zhang Wuji, because he is very human. I like Zhao Min and Xiaozhao, who is the author's favorite character in the book. Zhao Zhiruo is also pitiful, because of rejection from Zhang Wuji, she became evil. I actually like the girls, better the guy (Zhang Wuji).
  • @kk12345 Thanks for your sympathies! I have to message you here I could not respond to your other message. It is hard but I try to stay strong. But I got to say, we can get the best of both worlds if we are in heaven (assuming it exists) as we could watch series with our loved ones in heaven. I like Zhang Wu Ji as he has a tragic life like me. He was orphaned at a young age, is kind hearted, skilled, humble,etc... I think many just do not like the fact that he is wishy washy in love. It is hard to pick when so many girls love you so deeply. However, he did pick Zhao Min in the end even though many would say that was not the best decision. But he went with his heart finally and I love his character overall. After all which character is not flawed?
  • Will be watching the drama to see if it is nice. Zhang Wuji isn't my favorite character, but Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre is my favorite wuxia book.
  • @hetieshou Sorry for your loss. My condolences to your family. I believe that we will be able to see our loved ones someday in heaven and they are probably preparing a special room for us so that we can stay with them in future forever. I refer to https://mydramalist.com to see the grading on the Korean series by viewers. Majority of the series aren't nice, so I refer to the website often. Sometimes I wonder what is the point of life. If I were to have a choice between watching television dramas or being with my loved ones in heaven, I will definitely choose to be with my loved ones in heaven. I am just rambling on again, maybe god will hear me rambling on and on again. haha.
  • @kk12345 You can watch any new series online either on Viki or YouTube. That is where I watch most of my series. I am sick of remakes too but like you, I love the New Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre. I know the actor that plays Zhang Wu Ji since I have seen him in a few series already. His acting is not too bad and I think he will fit the character of Zhang Wu Ji just fine. Are those Korean series? I stopped watching Korean series since they were not so good. Some were ok but most of them got boring to me. Sadly my late mom passed away in Dec 2016. I miss her so much and will always remember all of the memories that I had watching and discussing series and novels with her. She got sick of remakes too and loved reading the novels more. She was a fan of the Chinese classics as well as Wu Xia.
