• @kolo pls la. I argued based on figure and facts. Unlike most people here argue with emotion and perception. Without those hong kong costars, stephen box office in CJ7 only 47M USD. But his kung fu hustle USD 100++M box office. By that time also he got lots of enemies already thats why he stopped filming. Now only he can target china audience because they duno what is quality as long as local people acted on it then its nice. You study history of china box office will know it they mostly support local production.
  • @lam86 i think ng man tat was stephen chows best side kick untill now, ng man tat is an great actor he isnt only good in comedy roles but also various type of roles. but to say stephen chow would not that popular without all his supporting actors is an understatement. of course a good movie is not just one actor but when i buy a ticket to watch stephen chows movie it isnt because of ng man tat or stephen chow but because his comedy movies are damm good. stephen chow was a genius in acting and producing comedies. his creativity and sense of humor was unique. his best works are shaolin soccer and kung fu hustle. but after that he wasnt able to reach those level anymore.
  • @wm2017 the difference is that alan having a mistress is because his wife's infertility and jacky did it just for the sex. moreover jacky never acknoledge his daughter while alan not only care about his mistress but also a top notch father.
  • @kolo Yup…come to think of it, same thing can be said about all of TVB’s programs nowadays. Even shows that TVB puts together to supposedly “pay tribute” to veteran artists end up being a platform for TVB to shamelessly promote their own artists and singers. I’ve stopped watching all TVB “tribute shows” over the years because they do nothing but piss me off with the blatant way they use veteran artists’ names for self-promotion….
  • @llwy12 zero credibility is a good word to describe this award show. it has become a podium to promote their own artist. nothing more than that.
  • @janet72 yes james wong was one of the greatest song composer/writer that have made cantopop great, also many other great singers and composer have passed away while other retired. there are just no succesors of that level nowadays.
  • @kolo canto pop died after james wong passed on.
  • i didnt watch any singers awards shows since the end of the four heavenly kings era. in the '80 and '90 it was really a big event with real singers and good songs. its the singers and songs that make those events great. its sad but i think cantopop already died for decades now.
  • @kolo I don't consider him to be a role model nor the face of TVB. He's a 3rd line actor at best, so that doesn't make him the face of TVB nor a role model. He's just a TVB employee in my eyes. Moreover, my comment was not directed at the result of this incident rather at the comments made by the posters in this post. People calling him a 'cheap', 'low-life', etc. Hugo is a representation of many men out there. Aside from trying to get with a married woman, I don't see anything wrong with his actions.
  • @jayne the point is did he lied to the media or not that he has made his fan pregnant. consensual sex is not a crime neither the vulgair sex messages. if he is so sure that he is not the father of the baby that will come then he can do a dna test so he can prove he is clean. but if he had lied and dont take the responsibility for what he did then i think he deserves to lose his job.
  • @anon the wrong is that he is an actor a public person with a role model who is the face of tvb. and the rule of tvb is if you make a sex scandal of this big you will be frozen. thats because his image is destroyed and advertising companies are no longer interested in him but also a threat for tvb if they still use him. image is everything for an actor. he is just a kelefeh but imaging if louis ko or andy lau did this how big the shock will be.
  • @kolo NEVER found him an on-screen hero either. In fact other than the early Shaolin ones ... I stayed away from most of his other stuff, esp the blockbuster action ones. Not Hero to me, even onscreen - bec it's slapstick humour and all brawn no brain kinda 'acting' And he came across like a performing monkey. on Jay Leno. Maybe I am weird - I don't particularly enjoy Stephen Chow Xing-Qi either.
  • i think he could be the one who had raped yammy lam if he can do such things like sleeping with dozen of prostitutes and have many affaires. onscreen hero but offscreen bastard.
  • telford wong can become the new raymond lam if tvb promote him. he looks full of positive energy, has a handsome friendly easy to accept face thats rarely seen from a tvb rookie since the last decade.
  • i think awkwafina is the ideal actress for the role as mulan and henry golding is perfect as james bond.
  • @kolo I don't have a solution. Just pointing out the repetitiveness of the same cycle of actors. On one hand, TVB is partially to blame for the lack of quality actors in their development cycle. On the other, the movie industry itself doesn't do enough to develop fresh blood on their own. They rather stick to the same batch of actors in every movie. I agree with you that the HK movie industry will die soon if no drastic changes are made.
  • @kolo If they bring in young Chinese actors to dominate the HK movie industry, I would rather continue see these veterans...
  • @anon who do you want to see then? all the big guns are seniors that already dominated the hk movie industry for decades now. there are just no suitable successors for them. they all used to come from tvb but since the lack of talented actors with star power, tvb is no more a breed room for stars. its sad but the hk movie industry will have the same fate as the the hk music industry if no new talented stars emerge.
  • @kolo if he is in work costume while speaking about the landlord situation, so what. Why does he have to wear a suit. Would his words have more power if he wears a suit? Just asking, I'm curious.
