• @passingby You’re very welcome! :-) Great movies deserve recognition and I honestly feel “Happiness” didn’t get as much accolade as it rightfully deserved (despite Kara Hui’s HKFA Best Actress win as well as a few of the other awards the movie had gotten back then). It’s a very quiet “outside the mainstream” type of movie with more of an arthouse feel, not the traditional “action-packed blockbuster” that HK audiences are used to, yet it packs a punch that is far greater than those action movies due to its societal relevance and the message it sends about people dealing with dementia and other serious illnesses. I agree that the chemistry between Kara and Carlos was awesome, though Carlos also did a great job holding his own (for example – that hospital scene when Ah Yuk’s dad basically disowns him and he is hurting so much inside, yet has to keep his emotions in check – Carlos nailed the emotional nuances in that scene, to the point that it broke my heart to watch….it was one of the many scenes that made me cry, even though overall the movie itself was relatively positive and uplifting). That movie had so many great scenes and meaningful dialogue — I also kept going back to re-watch some parts. True about the singing part, though hearing Carlos describe his early career, seems like it might have been a blessing in disguise, since it looks like he knew his strength wasn’t in singing so he decided to concentrate on acting instead. And yes, he’s very shy and as he says himself, lacks confidence and tends to be much harder on himself than he needs to be (which I personally find endearing, lol), but I agree that if he wants to survive in this industry long term, he will need to change that mindset a bit.
  • Carlos is definitely the best thing to come out this drama. I hadn't planned on watching it so soon but after reading the mostly positive comments about him, my interest was piqued and I'm glad I checked out this drama which kept me hooked and had me looking forward to each new episode. I watched Carlos in the movie Happiness and for a person like me who normally can't sit through a movie with no action scenes I enjoyed every moment of it and I found myself rewinding to watch many scenes over and over. The chemistry between Kara and Carlos is awesome. Thanks to @llwy12 for your recommendation. I think that it's a pity he gave up a singing career cos he has the looks and the youth to be groomed into a singer/actor like his contemporary William Chan. From his interviews it seems like he's an introvert and one who doesn't have much confidence in himself. Hope he changes his mindset or he will find it hard to survive in this highly competitive industry. He definitely has the looks and talent but he's somewhat lacking in luck. He's also tons better than the current up-and-comingTVB male artistes in his age group, both in the looks and acting department.
  • @mindee that's fine with me. Just voicing my opinion lol. To me his acting is acting, he's not that person he's trying to portray, just my opinion.
  • @passingby I am not a Samantha Ko or Natalie fan either. But I don't think Benjamin is that bad
  • @passingby I don't Samantha or Natalie either. But I don't mind watching Benjamin
  • You know that Tvb is really scraping the bottom of the barrel when people like Samantha, Natalie and Benjamin are leading dramas. Won't be surprised if Benjamin and Samantha become the next tv king and queen.
  • @passingby It has an interesting plot but quite boring after a few episodes. I am actually ok w/Benjamin finally being able to lead a series. I never like Natalie Tong's acting and there isn't really any chemistry between them either.
  • I've not watched this yet but Ben Natalie and Rebecca are imo incapable of leading dramas. This combination sounds boring no wonder so few people are watching.
  • @passingby she and her other actresses who portray the wholesome image is really BS. she should have kept a low profile even for this 2nd one. she is so fake.
  • @kuks Agree. Shotgun weddings are common these days but don't say one thing and do another.
  • @passingby +1 it was totally because of the whole shotgun thing because they've marketed themselves as wholesome Christians, the pregnancy didn't fit in with the image...
  • Lucky girl to have a cute and hot and caring bf.
  • @janet72 Despite how they spun a story to cover up her shotgun pregnancy not everyone wil be fooled. Thus her pregnancy was shrouded in secrecy and she went to all sorts of extent to hide her bump even resorting to hiding her tummy behind a huge soft toy. And when she gave birth it was equally secretive.
  • "super star Vanness"? For my life i don't see what's so great about this guy.
  • oh wow serious allegations against him. Hope he had a chance to explain but it doesn't seem to be so since he claimed he didn't know why his contract was terminated.
  • Besides Angela and janet, i hv no clue who are the rest in Charmaine's gang. She's the only one in the gang to make it big.
  • @llwy12 unfortunately I'm not a paid subscriber and don't hv access to the full interview
  • @passingby The version on YT is a 1 minute excerpt...the actual interview itself was around 40 minutes or so. Not sure if the complete version is posted somewhere or not -- I listen to most of CRHK's programs as a paid subscriber via their website / app.. Yes, Carlos is very close to both his mom and dad (from what I've heard, he's a very filial son). In fact, he said it was his dad who encouraged him to film Daddy Cool because filming a TVB series would help with his name recognition...Carlos was hesitant because he had 2 movie offers around the same time but his dad said to go for it and he would help him out financially if need be (since the 2 movie offers obviously paid way better than whatever TVB was going to pay him for the series). Part 2 of the interview is worth a listen as well, since Carlos talks about his path to becoming an actor (including why he ended up abandoning singing even though he got his start by participating in a singing contest) and also what his plans are for the future...oh and there's also some "sweet talk" about his girlfriend Jennifer Yu, lol....
  • @llwy12 yes, i watched this short clip on youtube too; is there a complete version? He must be very close to his mother to tease her this way.
  • @passingby LOL….yea, same for me – Carlos is one of the few actors that I took an immediate liking to as well, except it was back in 2016 when I started really noticing him after watching Happiness (I kind of knew who he was from the few HKTV series he was in, but his roles didn’t really stand out enough at the time for me to notice). Yes, agreed that he definitely comes across as very genuine and humble, though I would also use the word “cute” to describe him as well, lol. He actually did an interview with CRHK last week (as part of Daddy Cool promotion) and it was such fun hearing him describe his experience filming the series. Apparently, he said that he and his mom (he referred to her as “my ma-ma” which I thought was really sweet, lol) are huge fans of Wayne – the two of them watch TV together a lot and he said because his mom is a fan, he grew up watching Wayne’s series and has seen practically everything that he’s been in….so of course, finally getting the chance to work with Wayne in this series was a huge deal for him…he said that in the 10 years that he has been acting, his mom never once asked to visit him on set, but this time around, when he was filming for Daddy Cool, his mom would constantly try to make up an excuse to visit (like she would make soup and want to take it to him, haha)…he refused to let her visit though because he knew she would just “fangirl” over Wayne and he didn’t want to bother him (lol…it was so cute the way he described it – it’s obvious his parents are important to him, as he mentioned them often during the interview). I’m glad Carlos is getting so much recognition for his performance, as he’s one who definitely deserves it in my opinion!
