• @sehseh I agree... I noticed that toward the end of last year, beginning of this year, it was rumored that Edwin was planning to propose already. Then towards the middle of this year, during some interview it leaked that the couple secretly got married. Of course, they denied it at the time. So, the announcement during the awards ceremony was more of a confirmation than a surprise. @funnlim We all know most of the artist know ahead of time who will win. Not a big secret, and TVB especially planned it this was as they asked Priscilla and Tony to announce the winners.
  • @funnlim Actually the press did speculate/insider reveal that they are getting married somewhere early this year but they denied it. You didn't know not because of their fame level, but rather you didn't care (same as I do) but yeah, the rumors of their marriage was in the doggy news. In anyway, congrats to the couple, they looked sweet and lowkey. Wishing them a happy marriage.
  • @prettysadtruelikir the author of Winter Begonia is not deceased lol. She's an internet novel writer under the username of 银大虎 on weibo https://weibo.com/u/2417136430
  • @sehseh china really love adapting romantic historically inaccurate novels pretending its facts. The same with superhero like wuxia remakes. It went from every 10 to 5 to 3 years. The author is deceased and they're profiting it more of it. It's always going to be slightly inaccurate and polarizing. If its faithful = rehash and boring because there's nothing new. If it changes a lot = why don't you just change the name because its no longer the same thing. Although, the budgets for set and costume improves, they need better training for their idols in fighting and use real setting instead of green screen play station 3 cgi.
  • The English title for this project is Winter Begonia. The script was written by the original novel writer. Sigh... it's not officially announced yet, but since Charmaine have picked another Yuzheng project I pray the script is good.
  • @sehseh Maybe not since Hugo’s messages of an affair with married actress was exposed online and all over the news. He just apologised and has gone from strength to strength in lead roles...
  • @passingby Seems like bye bye bye for Hugo Wong. He might be frozen but not fired, depending on his network with the TVB bosses. He won't be leading in any TVB drama anytime soon, since TVB now have a sizeable lineup of male actors with cleaner image.
  • Don't **** where you eat, Hugo. He deserved the backlash.
  • Also, the producer and screenwriter are no longer Chik Kei Yi and Chow Yuk Ming (Another Era 1&2). Behind the screen is equally important to a drama production too.
  • @sehseh "girlfriend beater" will be a really big turn off and there goes his career when it was just about to rise or begin. If, that rumor is true.
  • Lavish lifestyle, not so much. They're labeling him as girlfriend beater. Good looking, but expressionless actor.
  • @sehseh Yea, I had read about that too. Too bad indeed. I personally hate it when politics gets mixed in with entertainment but I guess it’s something that’s unavoidable nowadays. I think for me, the one scene I really really want to see restored is Er Qing’s death scene. This might sound cruel but man I wanted to watch that despicable woman die, lol. The actress who played Er Qing said in an interview that they might bring that scene back at some point (since so many netizens were commenting about it), so definitely going to watch out for that....
  • @sehseh that's too bad, I liked her character the most despite limited screen time.
  • @llwy12 Consort Shun axed scene won't see the light of day. SARFT have issues with her original role being Consort Rong (Fragrant Consort), an Uyghur descent who is against Qianlong. Yu Zheng mentioned that they disliked her being 'too capable, too strong' and had to cut out most of her scenes. SARFT would not allow any portrayal on media that will 'harm' national unity, considering how they are still suppressing the rebellions in Xinjiang, where Uyghurs ethnic resides.
  • @funnlim Should I put spoiler???? -- --- ---- In the novel, Fu Kang An is Er Qing and Fu Heng's brother's son. It's implied in the drama where Er Qing caught him drawing her portrait. Trivia: In history, it was rumoured Fu Kang An was Qianlong's secret son (this was also used as plotline in Jinyong's Flying Fox of Snowy Mountain). Apparently, Fu Heng's wife was nicknamed as Qing's No.1 beauty, and Qianlong had an affair with her. Qianlong in history doted on Fu Kang An and he enjoyed the same privileges as other princes. Also, his two older brothers Fu Ling An and Fu Long An married princesses, but not him, which make people wondered why as evidently, Qianlong favored this 'nephew' the most. By the way, the spinoff was filmed concurrently with Yanxi. I think the episodes will be very limited. As for the sequel, Yu Zheng has mentioned in group chat before but nothing was conclusive. Rather than sequel I think he will make it a different story and characters.
  • @sehseh No need to feel sorry for Nie Yuan. He had been forgotten for years until this drama bought him back into the limelight. While reports of Uyghur oppression are escalating in the west, it's ironic that Uyghur actresses/actors like Dilraba, Merxat, Gouli Nazha, Medina Memet are enjoying popularity in China.
  • @funnlim 'in 19 years'. I guess they are referring to HSDS 2000 being her last villain role (Zhou Zhi Ruo). The story is based on a novel, of course the main lead can't die so easy! Hahaha. But yes, some of the servants in this drama talked so insolently to their masters, especially the lead actress... in history would have died many times over. Lives are cheap back in those days, especially servants.
  • @peachyogurt Actually, Charmaine has filmed several Mainland drama before this and she is the lead or shared lead in all of them. For Yanxi, during the production Yu Zheng has told Charmaine and also fans in group chat that this drama have shared leads (Wu, Qinlan, Charmaine). He even said that in terms of screentime, if Wu have 15 scenes, Charmaine have 13 scenes in comparison. Of course after filming we all know he lied, he only promoted Wu and the actor that played Fu Heng in stills, trailers etc (he said of course, since both of them are signed under his agency). The funny part is, when the drama is about to release on iQiyi, Charmaine's picture was used in preview, video thumbnails. Go figure. In Charmaine latest interview, she was asked how she felt being a supporting character and she replied it's not a supporting role, and she enjoys portraying the character. Anyway, the most sorry actor/actress in this drama should be Nie Yuan (the Emperor) and Jenny Zhang (Fragrant Consort). The former being relegated to heartless casanova, the latter had her screentime being altered and cut because the Chinese govt do not want ethnicity sensitivities onscreen (Fragrant Consort being Uyghur, trying to assassinate Qianlong who oppressed her people, which reflect the current situation in Xinjiang)
  • @wm2017 Well, she studied hotel management and at that time, there's not enough job vacancies in the field (she also admitted that she's picky, she wanted to work at established hotels). At that time, her mum just remarried and migrated to Hawaii, encouraged her to apply for Miss Hong Kong rather just being idle. A lot of people don't work in field that they studied in and still find success. Plenty of my friends (and myself) also did not work in the field we studied for our first job, no biggie.
