• @sol365 The issue is that people in china are bassing her because of her comments in the variety show I am and actor 3. There she bassed Peter Sheng for taking a role that is unsuitable for him. This comment is still okay, but then she harshly asked him whether he is acting for a livelihood and why he have to accept every script. But coming from her seems a bit off, because she hasn't experienced any hardship. The moment she got from uni, she was cast a female lead in zhang yimou movie and got famous. So, the people are saying that she doesn't know what struggling actors feel and that they don't have the choice to reject script like she has. And then, she als asked if he thinks being an actor has such a low treshold that everyone without talent can enter. Why does everyone now become an actor to get a share? She also bassed Qing Sha ( singer) for staying at singing and that acting needs talent. However, Qing Sha had two drama before and her acting was okay. So, the netizens are using her own words against her now asking her why she is taking a role not suitable for her and whether she is doing it for livelihood
  • @sol365 I don't think a TVB BA award even carries any weight in the HK film industry, at least in the past 10 years or so, none of the leading TVB actors have had successful HK film careers (Bosco Wong, Raymond Wong, Ron Ng, etc.). None of them can get leading roles (Raymond Wong, Ron Ng) or can't consistenly get them (Bosco) in HK films.
  • @sol365 Of course age matters in the progression of the story. Having an old person clearly not looking 15 depicting the role will detract from the whole experience. Not everyone views series expecting Oscar performances, they just want to be entertained.
  • Her win is only relevant within the confines of TVB and HK entertainment industry. Nonetheless, good for her that people believes she's at the BA level.
  • Older actresses are cast for younger roles due to their acting prowess, not necessarily if they look like little girls. Viewers are shallow if they think otherwise. They can go look for idol dramas with pretty young girls. For a sophisticated, period drama like this, Directors want more experience actors to carry the series, regardless if they do look older. I watched the first 2 episodes and it ain't that bad. Sure, she doesn't look the youngest but its the development of the storyline that matters.
  • @sol365 Although I really think that Douyin is real dumb, I understand why people are using it, especially celebrities. The world has become social media. There is more financial interest in being popular and more subscribed/liked than be actually show talent on TV. If not follow others in expanding in social media then will be overtaken by others who do....
  • I don't think its so much on her acting skills but more on her appearance and that sex appeal vibe that attracts audiences. Popularity comes in many forms and I'm not surprised if she's getting noticed in the mainland market. Good for her though.
  • Seems like HK netizens need to get a life if they can be offended by this. There's nothing wrong in increasing their fan base via social media, which is the norm now due to restrictions from the pandemic and it seems to be working.
  • @sol365 Fan Bing Bing is unknown outside of China. That makes her 'not' an international star. You might feel she is a huge star because of the size of china. That is not an excuse for calling her an international star though....
  • @sol365 Comparing both Fala and Fan Bing Bing's Hollywood careers, they are in the same discussion. I never said they are comparable back home. FBB is not an international star..lol..just like Fala, aside from the Chinese community and those that watch cdrama, most people do not know FBB. I think your comment is as laughable as well. To each their own.
  • Its unlike Charmaine will come back for LW4, based on viewership response from the previous instalments. She's pretty much rooted in the mainland market with appearances and product endorsements. Occasionally, she may film if there's an interesting script but the UC storyline lost its appeal since it has been milked to death by TVB. Even RL's comeback could not save LW4. Hence, I'm not putting my hopes up for a Raymond/Charmaine reunion. LW1 is still the best.
  • I think its laughable there are people out there that believes Fala made it big by appearing it Hollywood movie and to rank her with fan bingbing is an insult. Fan was forgettable in the movies she were in and she's an international star. Fala does not even have a fanbase in the US wasn't she even popular back in HK/China. Chinese mainland/TVB artists already established their fan base because of their acting and popularity, hence they don't need an acting school to bring them to the next level.
  • @sol365 haha you so cute. Joe ma that year no other good contenders? I dont think he even deserved to get BA at all. Still remember he acted as a bad son in the threshold of an era. ^^
  • The awards will always be relevant within the confines of TVB but really does not carry any weight anywhere else. As to who will win? Well, if the likes of Joe Ma can win the Best Actor award, then Raymond Lam should win hands down due to his popularity.
  • Tavia's acting is mediocre at best (same level as Nancy Wu, Selina Li) and her last drama Another Era was a flop. Hope her next drama is a good one.
  • I don't see Myolie in the same league as the other women mentioned here, hence quite surprised she was able to make it in China. I do agree Charmaine's acting/beauty is not the best but she hustled her way and worked hard to where she is today. Shereen is probably the most seasoned of the bunch and people will always remember her villainous role as "Yu Fei".
  • @sol365 By today's standards at TVB, Anne would be considered a good actress. Compared to her peers and the TVB standards in the early 2000s, her acting was crap - plain and simple. I've said this before and I'll say this again. Anne was lucky with the projects that she was able to participate in with the quality of casts that surrounded her at the time. Anne was never able to shine through with her acting. In fact, her acting was annoying. It was her beauty and the opportunities that she was involved in (the series mentioned above) that elevated her status.
  • @sol365 It's good to reminisce the good times but even back then, Anne was criticised every series and considered terrible. Back then I was watching almost every series and she definitely lacked talent. There was only angry expression and one scream and that was all she had. She was even close to threatening the big 5 female leads and when she disappeared some viewers were delighted and the rest didn't notice...
  • @sol365 she didn't impress me when she was in tvb. I was almost always like oh, another drama with her again, then I'd consider skipping. The only saving grace that made me watch were her costars. I recently watched love is beautiful. The male lead was decent and ouyang mui ying was perfect. Anne's acting in comparison was totally not on par. It was like she didn't know how to act. Yeah, I concur with others that her acting is pretty crappy even in today's tvb standards. I'd say she's right up there with Linda Chung if not worst.
  • @sol365 Acting is subjective and I never felt Anne was a good actress but compared to the current actresses, she can be considered good since the current TVB standard is terrible.
