Kimberley Chen Prepares for First Solo Concert

Nineteen-year-old singer-songwriter Kimberley Chen (陳芳語) is currently preparing for her first solo concert. The Australian-born Chinese singer, based in Taiwan, released her second full-length album Kimbonomics <金式代> on December 25, 2013 and has been actively promoting her record in Taiwan and other Asian countries.

For her concert, titled Party Animal, Kimberley revealed that she plans to surprise her fans with some intense “beast” dance moves. She said, “I am flat-footed, so it hurts for me to do certain moves, but I’m working on it, for the concert.”

Kimberley also added that she hopes to be able to showcase more of her musical abilities in the future playing more instruments. “I really regret not continuing piano lessons,” Kimberley said. “When I first started learning, my hands were really small and I couldn’t reach certain notes, which was why I didn’t do so well in the exams. My piano teacher was also really strict, and sometimes she would even slap my hands with a ruler. I gave up after six years.”

She plans to continue practicing the piano and hopes to be able to sing and play at the same time in the future. “Piano is really hard to pick up again. Just simple practice can take two days. When I go on stage, my hands would shake when I play.”

Kimberley, who has appeared in various musical theater productions when she was younger, was scouted by South Korea’s JYP Entertainment in 2008, and trained under the company when she was living in New York. In 2010, Kimberley competed in the singing competition One Million Star<超級星光大道>, which earned her a record deal with Taiwan’s Song Music Entertainment. Two years later, she debuted in April 2012 with her self-titled album, Kimberley.
