Anthony Wong Pays Homage to “The Untold Story” in New Viu TV Food Program

1993’s The Untold Story <八仙飯店之人肉叉燒包> was an unconventional success. A Category III film that follows a cannibalistic murderer, it was also the film that kickstarted Anthony Wong’s (黃秋生) award-winning career—he earned his first Best Actor at the Hong Kong Film Awards for his portrayal of killer Wong Chi-hang.

Starring alongside his good friend Ricky Cheung (張錦祥) for Viu TV’s food program What the Food <究竟食咗乜>, the duo traveled to Italy to learn how to make pizzas from scratch from a local chef. The two joked around on set, and when it was time to play with the pizza dough, Anthony made the dough to look like a pork bun, and referred to it as “human meat bun”, referring to his The Untold Story character in which he dismembered a corpse and made it into pork buns.

Anthony and Ricky participated in the entire process of making pizza. The actor shared that he did not expect kneading bread to be so tiring, and said he was serious when he said he wanted to go to sleep. “I’m not joking,” he said. “It’s tiring.”

The duo reminisced their first and close friendship—Ricky said that while Anthony had always been known for his straightforwardness, he would always be the first to give praise when it’s warranted. Ricky revealed that when Anthony first went to his restaurant, he was rude enough to bring his own food to eat. Anthony then said, “But in my heart, Ricky is Hong Kong’s number one chef. Whether it’s western or Chinese, it’s all just as delicious.”

What the Food will air its last episode on Friday, February 14th.
