Chen Kaige’s 18-Year-Old Son, Arthur Chen, Leads “Ever Night” with Big Stars in Supporting Roles

In the last three years, Mainland China saw the rapid rise of younger artistes such as Yang Yang (楊洋), Luhan (鹿晗), Kris Wu (吳亦凡), Bai Jingting (白敬亭), and Hu Yitian (胡一天). On the watch list should also be 18-year-old Arthur Chen (陳飛宇), who is director Chen Kaige‘s (陳凱歌) son.

Being Chen Kaige’s son definitely has its perks. After Arthur made his debut in his dad’s movie, The Orphan of Zhao <趙氏孤兒>, filming with Ouyang Nana (歐陽娜娜) in Secret Fruit <秘果>, to making his own music, Arthur’s popularity skyrocketed among the younger generation.

Arthur’s latest project is Mainland drama, Ever Night <將夜>, which is adapted from the manga of the same name. Arthur will play the lead role with big stars such as Adam Cheng (鄭少秋), Hu Jun (胡軍), Leon Lai (黎明), Dylan Kuo (郭品超) and Andy On (安志杰) in supporting roles to help Arthur shine.

While many fans are thrilled to see Arthur take on such a big challenge, some are worried that there might be too much pressure working with a group of veterans who are evidently more experienced. Many fans are hoping that Arthur will give this series his best effort so he does not embarrass himself in front of his seniors, as well as his dad.

  1. With a famous father, I am sure he will be given many opportunities. Wow only 18yo and on the list join the ranks of Luhan, Kris Wu etc young rich successful celebs.

      1. @littlefish “Ever Night” has good cinematography and looks epic. However, Arthur Chen, didn’t seem to have much expression in his scenes. I think the good choice in music heightened the atmosphere for the drama; would like to see trailer featuring actual dialogue.

      2. @jayne haha, his prominent expression possibly smug xD oh, not sure if it is, but I think the third song in the trailer is Zach Hemsey’s “see what I’ve become”. I hope they do the music the right way and not copying it like Korean drama lol (goblin and their theme song is so much like Alan walker’s song).

Anyway, Zach hemsey’s music is used by Hollywood for the movie trailers, as it really grabs you and works very well with fast pace action scenes (since trailer tends to run so fast). If you guys haven’t heard Zach Hemsey, you should check him out, his music is what you called “music that heighten the atmosphere”.

I’m not too concern about his acting, since it seems there are a lot of support couples/side stories, and their love stories will be quite interesting (angst and what’s not but mostly because the veterans are handling those complex emotions)

As long as the story is good, I will be watching, but we will have to wait for the first few episodes before we can truly judge how good it is 🙂 I also already know who he will end up with lol. And like usual, I will possibly shipping him with second leads lawl!

  2. So this is like a Chinese version of Lord of the Rings, huh?

At 00:56, for a moment, I thought they are Legolas, Gimli and Boromir. ROFL!!!

      1. @littlefish The first few minutes of the trailer somehow just emitted LoTR vibes to me until the point where I mentioned at 00:56, I almost shouted Legolas!!! I think it is the way they shot the cinematic scenes. xD
