Cho Jin Woong Announces Retirement After Delinquent Past Gets Revealed

South Korean actor Cho Jin Woong is announcing his retirement after tabloid reports that the actor was allegedly involved in delinquent activities in his teenage years and that he was sent to a juvenile detention facility. It was also claimed that the actor attempted to conceal his past by changing his name.
As reported in South Korean’s tabloid, Cho Jin Woong was involved in car theft and attempted sexual assault when he was in high school. The report also revealed that the 49-year-old actor was further charged with drunk driving and assault after entering the entertainment industry.
Although Cho Jin Woong’s agency issued an apology statement, the actor responded to public outcry by announcing his retirement.
Cho Jin Woong wrote, “Because of my past disgraceful actions, I have disappointed everyone who trusted and supported me. I bow my head and apologize. I will humbly accept all criticism, suspend all activities from today, and end my acting career. I believe this is the responsibility I should bear for my past mistakes. From now on, I will fully reflect on myself and strive to stand up again as a person. I apologize again to everyone, and thank everyone who has loved and respected me. I’m sorry.”
As a veteran actor with 21-years of acting experience, Cho Jin Woong’s scandal and announcement sent shockwave to the South Korean entertainment industry. The actor was reportedly filming for the second season of hit drama Signal, but the production team did not reveal any update following Cho Jing Woong’s retirement announcement.
