Cold War 1994 Draws Attention with an A-List Cast

As the prequel to 2012 film Cold War, upcoming film Cold War 1994 <寒戰 1994> is set to be released on May 1st and features an impressive cast consisting of Chow Yun-fat (周潤發), Aaron Kwok (郭富城), Tony Leung Ka-fai (梁家輝), and Louis Koo (古天樂), Daniel Wu (吳彥祖), Terrance Lau (劉俊謙), Wu Kang-ren (吳慷仁), Tse Kwan-ho (謝君豪), Louise Wong (王丹妮) and Fish Liew (廖子妤).

The film has released a trailer that highlights the a dual-timeline to build suspense. The trailer takes the audience to 217 on the eve of Chief Executive-elect Adrian Yip’s (played by Louis Koo) when the Secretary for Security M.B. Lee (played by Tony Leung Ka-Fai) suddenly goes missing. In response, Commissioner of Police Sean Lau (played by Aaron Kwok) and senior counsel Oswald (played by Chow Yun-Fat) are tasked with the investigation. Their search leads them to a mysterious file from 1994.

The trailer returns back to 1994, a turbulent era where thrilling gunfights and hand-to-hand- combats are commonplace. A power struggle is evident between the wealthy elites, the police force, the underground factions and the British government, each with their own agenda.

Aidan Gillen, known for his role in the hit series Game of Thrones, plays a high-ranking British official and is seen saying, “We don’t break the law. We write the law,” and setting up the complicated social structure.

Meanwhile Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations Peter Choi (played by Daniel Wu) the young M.B Lee (played by Terrance Lau) clashes over their values. Peter can be seen saying.  “There are things that you can do but can’t say, and there are some things you can say but you can’t do. Understood?” M.B Lee argues back, “Do you really think you own Hong Kong?”

While the trailer features 12 of the main character, the film is said to bring together 40 international acclaimed, cross-generational actors and resulting in a rare and grand production in Hong Kong Film history. Fans can expect to see many surprise faces such as legendary action star Yuen Biao (元彪). More hidden characters and stars will be gradually revealed later.
