Eric Tsang to Bring Back “Super Trio” Game Show

Recently appointed as TVB’s new Deputy General Manager, Eric Tsang (曾志偉) will be in charge of variety and entertainment show programming. Frequent collaborator, Wong Cho Lam (王祖藍), has also been appointed as Creative Director. Eric and Cho Lam were chosen due to their many years of working experience in China, knowledge of variety show production, and widespread networking connections. They will be supported by fellow TVB executive Sandy Yu (余詠珊) in paving the way for TVB’s expansion into the Mainland Chinese market.

Currently working in China, Eric hopes to return to Hong Kong as soon as possible to meet with his new colleagues. TVB has shown that it highly values Eric as his office will be situated next to Chief Executive Officer Mark Lee (李寶安). It is said that he will appear in TVB’s upcoming Lunar New Year gala, where he will give out red pockets and take part in the lion dance ceremony alongside TVB Chairman Thomas Hui (許濤).

With many great ideas in mind, Eric is already planning for future variety shows that are suitable for Hong Kong and Mainland Chinese audiences. He wants to revive the classic Super Trio <獎門人> variety show, as it would bring more happiness during the pandemic.

Previous Super Trio hosts Chin Ka Lok (錢嘉樂), Jerry Lamb (林曉峰), and King Kong Lee (金剛)  have not heard any news yet, but are very excited for Eric’s plans. If Eric calls him, King Kong would fly back immediately to Hong Kong to support it.

Other TVB artistes such as Crystal Fung (馮盈盈), Kaman Kong (江嘉敏), Joey Thye (戴祖儀), and Jumbo Tsang (曾淑雅) would love to appear on the show.

Crystal expressed, “When I was young, I attended a filming session and was in the audience. I took many prizes home! I really want to become a host on the show, give out prizes, and bring happiness to everyone!”

Also watching Super Trio in her childhood, Kaman said, “Of course, I want to be invited onto the show, but I’ll have to wait for the company to schedule it. I watched the show often as a child, and it brings back many good memories! I want to play the ping pong and spicy sushi games. Many games are very memorable. If possible, I want to be invited on every episode!”

Joey Thye (戴祖儀) had looked forward to watching Super Trio every weekend when it was on air, and found every game to be hilarious.

Jumbo said, “If possible, I want to take part in the show. There has been a lot of negativity in the past year due to the pandemic. I hope that there will be comedic shows, so that everyone can be happier.”

  1. Yessssss loved this show, a big part of my childhood. Watched it every weekend with my family.

But lol of course crystal and kaman want to be on the show, what else do they have going on.

  2. Those older shows are still so good. TVB has been posting them on YouTube, and I went on a binge watching them lol. They’ve still aged pretty well imo.

  3. Oh you could have seen a MILE away, lol. How inventive rebooting a decades old game show. TVB just wasted more money on rehashing old stuff. South Korea created the Masked Singer concept and TVB digging up an old game show, money well spent.

  4. I felt the show was a lot better and funnier when it Chin Ka Lok, Jerry and Jordan in it. But not so when King Kong was in it for some reason…

      1. @conan2209 ya tvb didn’t have many big time artists left to participate. King Kong needs this, he was pretty much forgotten after the show last ended.

  5. There’s also talks that Eric Tsang is revamping Jade Solid Gold by repairing TVB’s relationship with the big 5 record labels. Sounds enticing.

    1. @tinlunlau This is more news worthy than bringing Super Trio back.
Herman Ho killed off music at tvb and replaced it with cookie cutter crap. Meanwhile Viu is putting resources into getting good singers and variety of songs on their shows

  6. Hopefully under Eric and Cho lam guidance TVB will be a bit better Super Trio was good in the late 90’s i remember watching on eps on Youtube there was Esther BoBBY Joyce and her ex BF ….Cutie Miu Louise Ada and Lawrence NG it was so funny I’ve repeat the eps from time to time

  7. What happened to innovation?

Pay big bucks to Eric Tsang and the best he comes up with is Super Trio reboot ?

    What a joke…

  8. i enjoyed the show when i was younger but i heard that many games weren’t original. not that i care for that anyway. anyhow, i wish they do something innovative.

  9. Super trio had always had some success especially the older season I’m glad their bringing this back… I sure hope Eric will have more great ideas up he sleeves.

  10. I like Liza’s magic, even though I still did not get how the guessing game . I also like Carol Cheng’s travelling around the world (Do Do goes shopping & Do can eat) but now of cos’ it is hard to travel. Her introduction of the other countries hidden knowledge is very educational. Hope more of this programs will be also revive.

  11. Super trio was successful in it earlier season as (1) it was all the big stars (2) the guests were really into the games and had no qualms teasing other guests and the hosts, at times even leaking out small harmless secrets of others.

It got boring later cos they only had TVB artiste later who dare not say or go overboard.

So I honestly won’t hope for too much with the revival

    1. @conan2209 this. It was like HK version of running man where everyone went wild. Even it’s last series is better than the shows now. Now it’s a bunch of wannabes trying to appease to Liza Jeh lol.

      1. @bubbles23 worse with Liza and Dodo, they’re too heavyweights for anyone. At least Dodo seems open to jokes on her. People probably treat Liza like they would with Dowager
