Gallen Lo and Tavia Yeung Praised as Warm Mentors

TVB’s upcoming drama The Model Lawyers <模範律師團>, executive-produced by Chung Shu-kai (鍾澍佳), recently completed filming in Hong Kong, bringing together veteran award-winning actors Gallen Lo (羅嘉良) and Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯) with a younger generation of performers including Moon Lau (劉佩玥), Kelly Cheung (張曦雯) and Matthew Ho (何廣沛).
For Tavia, the drama also marked another reunion with Gallen after many years. She said their chemistry remained remarkably natural despite the long gap between collaborations.
“(It’s as if) we naturally know what the other person is thinking. We don’t even really need to rehearse our performances — we can often get it in one take,”
Although their characters share many serious scenes, Tavia said the atmosphere between them off camera was considerably lighter. She praised Gallen’s comic instincts and jokingly called him the “King of Comedy,” adding that she would love to work with him on a comedy in future.
“He says I’m good at making jokes, but I’m actually not,” she laughed. “With him leading the way, though, it wouldn’t be a problem. He has such natural comic timing. I’d like to learn comedy from him,”
Gallen was equally positive about their reunion, describing the material they filmed together as some of the drama’s most substantial scenes, and shared how his character was particularly challenging because of the complexity of his relationships with those around him and the intensity of the dramatic conflicts.
He also singled out the ensemble cast for praise, mentioning Alice Chan (陳煒), Joyce Teng (滕麗名), Kelly, Matthew and Moon among those who impressed him.
“Everyone worked very hard, so filming was really enjoyable,” Gallen said. “I feel very fortunate that, coming back this time, I encountered such a good group of actors.”
Gallen Deliberately Lowered Himself to Put Younger Actors at Ease
Kelly was similarly enthusiastic about the opportunity to work with actors she had never previously collaborated with. Describing Tavia as cheerful, approachable and caring, she described Gallen as being particularly considerate of the fact that younger performers might initially feel intimidated working opposite someone of his stature.
“He’s my sifu. He’s very thoughtful,” she said. “Maybe he knew that we younger actors would be nervous. From the very first day, he took the initiative to chat with us and deliberately toned down his presence, so that everyone could feel comfortable filming together,” shared Kelly.
Moon Lau: “I Treasured Every Minute I Could Learn From Them”
For Moon, the production was especially significant because it was her first time working with both veterans, thus she made full use of the opportunity, constantly asking the two senior actors questions and interacting with them between takes.
“I was asking them things non-stop and playing around with them as well. I treasured every minute and every second I had to learn from them,”
She described Lo as exceptionally humorous and “a rare kind of senior actor,” while praising Tavia for being straightforward, open and generous in sharing her experience.
Lau revealed that she frequently sought Tavia’s advice not only about acting, but also about everyday matters. “I’m always bothering her about acting and about life,” she said. “Sometimes after finishing a take, if I’m not very sure about what I’ve done, she will actually take the initiative to help me,”
Actress Alice Chan, who momentarily blacked out from the intense heat and thick clothes the cast had to put on, recovered well enough to speak after a short nap, and shared that her doctor husband was on his way to set to examine her.
