Golden TVB Producer, Mui Siu Ching, Announces Retirement

TVB producer Mui Siu Ching (梅小青) recently announced her retirement from Hong Kong television. The title of “golden producer” does not come without its merits, as Mui Siu Ching is known to have produced many classic dramas, including Where the Legend Begins <洛神>, Beyond the Realm of Conscience <宮心計>, and the Forensic Heroes <法證先鋒> franchise.

At a recent promotional event for the soon-to-air Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV>, the 66-year-old producer took the opportunity to announce her retirement, citing health reasons. It was reported that Mui Siu Ching experienced cerebrovascular embolism on the left side of her brain two years ago while filming Deep in the Realm of Conscience <宮心計2深宮計>. A cerebrovascular embolism is a blockage that occurs when a clot breaks off from elsewhere in the body and travels to the brain. Mui Siu Ching was at risk of having a stroke and being paralyzed on the right side of her body.

When contacted about the news, Mui Siu Ching emotionally reminisced on her 40 years within the entertainment industry, citing many memorable moments. She shared, “All the times that I worked alongside my colleagues; all the times we stayed up late; all the times we had to sleep at the company building; the time where we had hundreds of people on site in Hengdian to film a scene; competing alongside the team; moments where we were on stage to receive awards – these are all memorable moments.”

On what she would miss the most, Mui Siu Ching emphasized that she would miss her coworkers and the work itself. “Seeing the final product after all the hard work, I would unknowingly smile. I will also miss reading the reviews and anticipating viewership ratings when a drama is aired.”

After more than 40 years with the industry, Mui Siu Ching produced many highly-rated dramas. When asked to choose a favorite, she smiled and said, “Honestly, I like all of them. I have put blood and sweat in each! The one I like most of all, though, is Beyond the Realm of Conscience.”

As her last project with TVB, what are the producer’s thoughts on Forensic Heroes IV? “Both on-screen and behind-the-scene crews have worked hard together to see this final product. I hope the audience will like it. I have no qualms or regrets about having joined this industry.”

  1. I’m pretty glad she’s retiring, tbh. I think all the older group of people need to leave to allow new fresh blood in. It’d be great if they choose a consulting role instead of a direct role, because it allows younger people to have a chance in producing series that interest more dynamic demographics, instead of dramas about lawyers, doctors, businesses and policemen all the time. Our of her entire career, I think there were only three dramas she’s produced that I actually liked. That’s a very bad success rate.

  2. Mui Siu Ching produced some good shows but also a whole crap load of trash dramas.

  3. Sad to hear about her health condition. Mui Siu Ching produced a lot of great dramas that I enjoyed a lot growing up. Will miss her produced dramas.

  4. i don’t recall her drama being good. i know a few of them had high ratings but always thought the plot and storyline too cliche.

    1. @m0m0 Right… TVB clearly do not believe in ‘new blood’ whether it’s actors/scriptwriters/producers etc…always the same people over and over. So depressing!!
