Gordon Lam Convinces Louis Koo To Film New Movie for Free

Attending a premiere event for his drama film Hand Rolled Cigarette <手捲煙> at the 17th Hong Kong Asian Film Festival (HKAFF), Gordon Lam (林家棟) shared that did not receive a single cent to do the movie—he believes in cultivating talent, which is what the current Hong Kong film industry desperately needs.

Nominated for Best Actor at Taiwan’s Golden Horse Awards for his performance in Hand Rolled Cigarette, Gordon is still debating on whether or not he should attend, as he is currently busy with the post-production of The Evening <殺出個黃昏>.

Gordon is also in the midst of preparing the shooting for his new film Egg Waffles <雞蛋仔>, a collaboration with Louis Koo (古天樂). Egg Waffles is slated to begin filming next year. Spending long nights and weeks to perfect the script, Gordon hopes Egg Waffles would be a good opportunity for rookie directors and actors to perfect their craft.

“I’ve been trying to convince Louis to do the film for free,” said Gordon. “I’m still waiting on his response. I’ve already took this step. I don’t planning on getting paid for this movie. If he is willing to do the same, then success [for the film] is assured.”

  1. gordan sounds like a very respectable man. i remember his struggling days at tvb and he finally made it big and just left and start over in film again.

  2. If its Gordon’s film and he is not paying himself, that’s fine. But asking the top hk movie star to film for free? Maybe do-able if its just a guest appearance but not as main character.

    1. @mike Why not? Anthony Wong did it and won an award for it. Good for Gordon for doing this and I’m sure Louis will do it for free.
