HK Celebrities Come Forward for Tai Po Disaster Relief

Following the devastating fire at Wong Fuk Court in Hong Kong’s Tai Po district, many organizations and businesses have come forward with monetary donations to support urgent relief efforts, including Li Ka Shing Foundation, the Community Chest, Lee Shau Kee Foundation.

Top HK Stars Offer Help

Among celebrities who stepped up to aid fire victims are Karena Ng (吳千語) with a HK$300,000 donation, and Janice Man (文詠珊) and Samantha Ko (高海寧) who each donated HK$200,000 to the Yan Chai Emergency Assistance Relief Fund. Jackson Wang (王嘉爾) announced a HK$1 million donation through Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, while Cecilia Cheung’s (張柏芝) studio also issued a statement on November 27, donating HK$1 million through Po Leung Kuk, a society for protection of women and children.

Amid city-wide event delays, HK star Miriam Yeung (楊千嬅) also chipped in with a HKD$2 million donation before kicking off her scheduled concert at the Hong Kong Coliseum, and expressed her condolence to victims of the tragedy.

Through her charity Han Hong Love Charity Foundation, mainland singer Han Hong (韓紅) announced a RMB10 million donation to provide ongoing support for victims, and expressed profound respect for frontline workers, including firefighters and the police force. “My heart aches for Hong Kong. Praying for safety!” her statement read. Zhou Shen (周深), who is set to hold a New Year’s Eve concert in Kai Tak, Hong Kong, also contributed RMB 1 million.

K-pop Stars Join Donation Efforts

K-pop groups aespa and RIIZE, who performed at the MAMA Awards, along with their agency SM Entertainment, also made donations. “We are deeply concerned about the heartbreaking news. In the name of aespa, we are donating HK$500,000 to the Hong Kong Red Cross, hoping to offer some strength. We sincerely pray for everyone’s safety.”

SM Entertainment donated HK$1 million, while its groups Super Junior donated HK$1 million, and RIIZE and WayV contributed HK$250,000 each. Korean girl group I-dle also donated RMB 1 million to the Fosun Foundation for post-disaster reconstruction.

Among Korea’s four major entertainment companies, JYP Entertainment donated HK$2 million to World Vision Hong Kong; YG Entertainment donated HK$1 million; and HYBE donated KRW 500 million (approximately HK$2.66 million) to the Korean Hope Bridge Honors Club disaster relief association, which will work with Hong Kong non-profits to support reconstruction and assist those affected.
