“Hong Kong Love Stories” Would Have Benefited From Earlier Time Slot

Although TVB’s modern romance drama Hong Kong Love Stories <香港愛情故事> managed to generate quite a bit of buzz since its broadcast, the viewership ratings were only mediocre for the week ending December 13, 2020.

Starring Joey Law (羅天宇) and Katy Kung (龔嘉欣), Hong Kong Love Stories features a young couple trying to buy their very first home in the city known for its outrageous real estate prices. The collaboration between Joey and Katy is refreshing, and the storyline is engaging and resonated with younger viewers. The premiere episode garnered 21.3 points in viewership ratings points, but only averaged 20.1 points for the most recent week.

However, it is worth noting that Hong Kong Love Stories performed relatively well for a drama airing in the 10:30 p.m. slot, as its predecessors only averaged 17 points in the same time slot. It is believed that if it were aired in a more opportune time slot, the drama’s viewership would be higher.

Other TVB dramas airing in earlier time slots performed stronger. Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛•回家之開心速遞> held consistent ratings despite dropping slightly from 27.5 points to 26.9 points. Other prime-time dramas, Line Walker: Bull Fight <使徒行者3> successfully rose slightly from 25.3 points to 25.5 points while Legal Mavericks 2020 <踩過界II> averaged 23 points.

  1. One of my favourite dramas this year. I really appreciated the relatable storyline and how it wasn’t overly dramatic. It was also a consistent storyline that didn’t feel rushed. All stories were real and actual situation people can relate to.

Brian Tse was the wrong person for his role but other than that, I think the cast was good. Joey is so darn cute you cant help but love him even though his acting was mediocre. King Lam I think is so underrated. He’s been in like multiple dramas straight this year and I enjoyed each role.

Unrelated but those ratings for LW3 and LM2…. ouch. I mean it’s definitely because it aired online before tv. Even with the shit storyline of LW3, I think it would have faired better. LM2 is good and should have higher but most people watched it before it aired on tv so that sucks, we all saw this coming.

  2. As I said on another post about this drama, it was nice to see a fresh pairing of scores anot the same old same old. Katy is not one of of my fav but she has improved a lot and her acting in this drama is also suitable. Joey is nice as one of the romantic half and fun to watch.

  3. So tvb aired three dramas back to back to back starting at 8:30? Interesting. After hearing y’all say it’s good I’ll definitely try it.
