Jackson Wang Focuses on Work in South Korea This Year

Since South Korean boyband GOT7 relinquished ties with its management company JYP Entertainment, Jackson Wang (王嘉爾) and former members have been pursuing solo projects. In a recent podcast, Jackon shared that he has been working on his music in China recently, and what his plans are after signing with Korean talent agency Sublime.

Eager to Develop His Career in South Korea

Going on Dive Studios’ podcast program Get Real with BTOB’s Peniel, KARD’s BM and Ladies Code’s leader Ashley, the hour-long chat is one of the longest for Jackson so far.

Jackson described the working culture at his new agency as one of “a big friendly family.”  Though he had just signed with Sublime in January, lots of projects are already put in motion. Promising a monthly surprise for fans with 40 song titles to be released this year through both local and overseas collaborations, Jackson said, “I intend to work in Korea this year. I am preparing albums, in both English and Chinese.”

Although he started releasing solo albums since he was 23, Jackson’s contractual terms with JYP had forbidden him from promoting his solo songs in Korea, which was why he is eager to further engage the market now.

Reminisces Old Days

Sharing updates of his former group members, Jackson revealed that JB and Kim Yugyeom are preparing their solo albums while BamBam might be interested in acting. With most fans wanting the members to reunite, the 26-year-old said, “We have left JYP, but we are still GOT7.”

Jackson also reminisced the time he was trainees at JYP with Peniel, whom he addressed as “brother” as he was his senior both in terms of age and experience at the company.

As for his personal plans, Jackson wants to move to Beijing to live with his parents, as he realized how they have aged, awakening his instinct to “protect them.”
