Janice Man Finishes Up Wong Jing’s “The Heavenly Sword and Dragon Sabre”

Janice Man (文詠珊), aka JM, has ended her portion of the upcoming Wong Jing (王晶) film The Heaven Sword and Dragon Sabre <倚天屠龍記>, the official sequel for 1993’s Kung Fu Cult Master <倚天屠龍記之魔教教主> starring Jet Li (李連傑).

The film, which is based on the wuxia novel of the same name by Jin Yong (金庸), commenced principal photography in January 2020, at Hengdian World Studios. Two weeks later, filming was brought to a halt due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Filming resumed in mid-April.

Four months later, costars Raymond Lam (林峯) and Raymond Wong (黃浩然) announced that they have completed filming. Last week JM—who plays Zhao Min—shared on social media that she has also completed filming.

“I really don’t know how to describe what I feel at the moment,” wrote JM. “Thank you Jing Gor for bringing us together to film the new version of HSDS 27 years later. I’m so honored that I am given another opportunity to play another classic Jin Yong character. The cast and crew have been through a lot together these past few months. From bright springs to hot summers, and finally to cool autumns, I want to thank all staff members for their sacrifices. Hoping that we’ll get to see our results soon! Zhao Min is looking forward to greeting you all that day!”

The film also stars Donnie Yen (甄子丹) and Louis Koo (古天樂), respectively playing Zhang Sanfeng and Zhao Cuishan. Raymond Lam stars as Zhang Wuji. Elvis Tsui (徐錦江), Alex Fong Chung Sun (方中信), and Raymond Wong respectively star as Xie Xun, Yang Xiao, and Wei Yixiao.

      1. @bennyjr LOL..OMG….I just goggled derek kwok’s age. He is 55 and yes he does look so much younger than RL in the above pic. WTH happened to him really. haha He’s literally 15 years younger. Gosh!!

nothing to do w/ skinny. raymond looks old b/c of saggy skin, it’s the muscles that pump up your face, not fat.

  1. Oh how I wish the sequel was made 20+ years ago… No modern actress can match up to Sharla Cheung’s beautiful, suave and wicked portrayal of ZM.

  2. I liked jet li’s Zhang wuji with shadiness to his character. I was really looking forward to the sequel when I was a kid but now, I think that it is best left untouched. No one can replace Chingmy and Sharla. Will give this one a miss.

  3. Dude Raymond Lam is old enough to play Yang Xiao. I cringe at the thought of him playing Wuji after watching the 2019 adaptation. Is the Raymond Wong in this Wong Ho Yin?

i think it’s just lack of make up, hair and poor lighting. the other day i was checking out sun li jung (i think), ms singapore who starred in stephen chow’s movies. she is in her 50s, and looks like a 50 yo lady but instantly transformed into a beautiful 45ish lady w/ make up.

  4. I’ve never liked Zhao Min as a character…but I’ve only ever seen Gigi Lai’s version of her, so maybe my assessment is unfair. I’ve always felt she was too troublesome to be a good partner. Janice Man is gorgeous, but her acting is quite meh. I hope she can change my mind about Zhao Min.

gigi lai was a good zhou mi. You’re right, JM’s acting is not good enough to bring out the sassy of the character. I also think JM is not pretty enough, i never thought she was pretty. when she debutted w/ ABB, i always thought JM just stuck w/ ABB to garner more ABB. that’s just me though.

      1. @m0m0 y’know it’s weird. when everyone was hopping on the AB train and kept emphasizing that JM wasn’t as attractive as AB, I thought the opposite. I never found AB pretty – her lips and jaw still weirds me out. But JM was gorgeous in pics – she still is. But she’s not as attractive when acting/in videos. So it’s personal preference I think.

I don’t think my issue is with Gigi as the actress. It was more her character. I found Zhao Min annoying and too entitled. Which is why I never shipped Zhang Wuji and Zhao Min. But I have a thing with not understanding extremely sassy characters…like I could never understand the hype with My Sassy Girl (the movie.)

      2. @coralie Zhao Min is actually a very good partner because she sacrificed a lot for Wuji. She always put Wuji first and risked her own life by betraying the king for him.

    2. @coralie I actually like Kitty Lai’s version of Zhao Min with Tony Leung. She was very pretty and really look the part in that version.
