Kaman Kong Was In Extreme Mental Stress After Vincent Wong Dating Rumor

Kaman Kong (江嘉敏) experienced overnight fame following her debut TVB performance in Tiger Mom Blues <親親我好媽>, but fame comes with a terrible price.

The 25-year-old experienced her darkest times when she became the female lead of a new kind of drama, the kind that could break families and send the paparazzi to a frenzy.

Pairing up with Vincent Wong (王浩信) for the TVB anniversary drama Fist Fight <兄弟>, Kaman Kong became the center of gossip when paparazzi reported that she was the third party coming in between Vincent’s marriage with Yoyo Chen (陳自瑤). Vincent and Yoyo have been married since 2011, and together they have one daughter.

Kaman was mortified.

“I was very stressed,” she said. “That was my very first rumor. My first gossip report. Because it was my first one, I didn’t know how to handle it. I was scrambling for help. I didn’t know why I had that kind of news. I didn’t do anything out of the ordinary, yet those reports happened! My mentors told me that readers would only be interested in news if it’s juicy. They told me to just treat the news as a bit for a joke.”

Kaman admitted that she went through a mental breakdown, and for a period of time she was afraid to confide her emotions and feelings to other people. “If I talked to another guy, will they say that I’m trying to date him? If I talked to a girl, will they say that I like her? I was basically in a crazy mental state. I remember sharing on Instagram that I was very unhappy. It was to the point where I considered giving up this career.”

Her mind was in such a dark place that there was a moment when Kaman had actually considered suicide. “I thought about just jumping off a roof. And then everything would end.”

While Kaman had always been very open and straightforward with her thoughts and feelings on Instagram, she ironically did not share many of her struggles and vulnerability with her parents.

“When my mother asked me why it had to take Instagram for her to know why I was unhappy, that’s when I realized that I had neglected my family,” said Kaman, choking back tears. “Now, I’m opening up to them about everything. We have a family chat. Now, whenever I feel unhappy, I’ll tell them. At least, they now feel more prepared when they read gossip about me.”

Speaking about her starring role as one of the princesses in TVB’s Seven Princesses <七公主>, Kaman said, “I’m just happy that I still have work! My role is also a very challenging one, so I’m really thankful for this opportunity.”

A versatile actress, Kaman hopes to broaden her filmography with more variety. Learning new skills like sign language and taekwondo, Kaman hopes to stay competitive to attract more producers to cast her in new series.

“I’ve previously played characters that were deaf or blind, so I would love to play someone who is mute,” she said. “My most striking characteristic is my voice. A lot of people want me to play someone who’s mute, haha!”

  1. Please if you didn’t do anything hold your head high, otherwise you’re just an attention *****. If you’re too thin skinned to stand up for yourself with false gossip then you’re in the wrong business.

      1. @hbc1 @jane626 agree with both of you. I also hated her in fist fight, her acting did not compliment Vincent’s at all. I don’t think any of the female leads were good really.

Her character in death by zero also is excruciating to watch. Not a fan.

      2. @tt23 lol….So glad to hear of this as I always thought I was the only one who thought so. She definitely sounds over hyper like in her teens even thou she’s already in her 20’s. I remember Matt Yeung on promoting that fist fight brothers series and he said haven’t her for a while and still so brainless. I think he said ” low ( in cantonese ) B “…..hahaa lol…. So fitting. Yes, that Fist Fight none of the female leads were memorable and esp the paired up of this girl w/Vincent Wong. Like really?

  2. I stopped reading half way throigh because her response is hecka OTT. What a drama queen, lol. Then again, she was young, no experience, and naive; so sure be dramatic. She sounds more like a teenage drama queen than a mid20s young adult. Anyways, only liked her in that tiger mom drama. She’s a flop in Everything else.

    1. @jjwong I agree. She is too much. Sounds very immature. Tiger Mom was the only series I enjoyed her in as well. Her backwards cap look and character in Death by Zero is annoying to watch. Blah. Oh by the way, are you from NorCal? You used the word “hecka” so I’m just guessing. lol

  3. Fist Fight was so uninspiring. Was hoping for some good looking fighting at least, but nothing memorable. Kaman is good for cute supporting characters, but has no depth otherwise. Her character in Fist Fight was superfluous.

I did laugh at the one scene where the brothers were all sitting around with their women standing next to them and giving shoulder massages. Unnecessarily patriarchal.

Anyways, if Kaman truly considered suicide because of rumors, she really needs to seek help. This may not be the right career for her.

    1. @potatochip I like Kaman’s acting & feel like she is one of the better actresses at TVB. She expresses herself pretty well in emotional scenes and she’s not stiff like others. I remember one scene with Kaman & Vincent on a mountain when she started crying about losing memory. In terms of depth, she may lack some, but maybe due to life experiences.
