Katy Kung Wants to Win TVB Best Actress

After 10 years in the entertainment industry, Katy Kung (龔嘉欣) is finally making a name for herself. Not only is she receiving more opportunities, better roles, and more recognition for her acting, the 30-year-old actress is also a smart investor and has several business and real estate investments. Although her close friends from the Housewife Alliance group, consisting of Grace Chan (陳凱琳), Zoie Tam (譚凱琪), and Jess Sum (沈卓盈), are all married and starting to become moms, Katy expressed that she is not in a rush and instead is focused on working towards her goal of the TVB Best Actress award.

Currently seen in TVB drama, Death By Zero <殺手>, Katy’s eyecatching assassin role may pave the way for more opportunities. In the drama, she pairs up with Wayne Lai (黎耀祥), who in real life is 25 years her senior. On whether she was able to get into character, Katy said, “Of course, I could get into character! I have experience [in acting]. I don’t think I can accept a relationship with a man that much older than me in real life though. I can’t imagine it. The chance of that happening is quite low. I have not had an older man woo me before. My dad is also in his 50s. I can’t accept someone older than my dad. But filming is okay!”

Now in her 30s, Katy has a changed perspective on life and wants to work harder in her career. “I cannot use the excuse of my being young and ‘a little girl’ anymore. I have to think more about other people and for myself. After winning the Best Supporting Actress [in 2016], I have to move on to the next level. My next goal is TVB Best Actress!”

Earlier this year, Katy purchased her first home, which required some time to adjust to the transition. She shared, “I hate moving. In the past, I have cried during moving before. I have always wanted a home to call my own, but it is not easy. There is a definitely a degree of pressure, especially with the economy the way it is right now. There are a lot of things out of my control. I can only do my best.”

In addition to purchasing a home, Katy also opened her own restaurant in Malaysia this year. On how she is able to be so financially savvy, Katy shared some money-saving tips. “I have two bank accounts and will only ever use money from my ‘A’ bank account. I will not touch the money from my ‘B’ bank account. I would also never take my credit card out for use. I enjoy saving money, but do not know how to invest money. I am a conservative person. When someone encourages me to buy stocks, I wouldn’t do it. I would only put my money in an account to accrue stable interest. I also do not have ideas of buying large and luxurious properties. I also rarely purchase new clothes.”

  1. I watched three episodes of DBZ and she just looks like a freak.. isn’t her character supposed to be a sexy cool assassin? And idk who’s fault it is but her fight scenes don’t look smooth and at ease. Best Actress? We’ll see…

  2. She reminds me of JJ Jia but JJ is much better whether in terms of looks or acting wise.

    1. JJ is way better looking then her acting wise is good even tho her Cantonese is a bit broken hope she’ll make a come back in TVB the station really needs help

  3. Keep dreaming girl…..to me her acting is not good and I forgot what drama was it called but she had seduce the general I was like lady stop it ….. gave me the cringe ….idk…it’s something about her face frame looks so weird

  4. She is missing fluidity with her action moves and walks slightly hunched. I can’t tell if that is on purpose or not being able to fully flesh out the character.

She got the crazy part of the assassin role down, but not the cool part. Although, that may be the writing, because it is hard to be cool when your character is written as a blunt idiot. And definitely not sexy. Her character should have been smoother, wise-cracking, and aloof.

Compared to other Tvb actresses, she is above average but still missing that likeability factor.

    1. @potatochip I still think she is a miscast. Her role should have went to Samantha Ko who can better pull off the hot punk look without looking freakish. Her acting is okay but her roles are never likeable, ie. in the dripping sauce — cringe.

      1. @bubbles23 Yes, I agree that she is miscast. But Samantha wouldn’t really match Wayne either. Samantha is playing the sexy, smart, detailed cleaner pretty well. That character has to be sexy for it to be believable for Moses to have a crush on her.

Grace Wong may work as punky assassin. She looks good fighting.

      2. @potatochip you are right… I forget that matching Wayne needs to be considered. In that case yeah Grace would be great. She’s compatible with most male actors.
