Margaret Chung, Toby Leung Talk “Uncomfortable” Moments on TVB Filming Sets

Janet Chow (周家蔚) invited her close friends Annie Man (文頌嫻), Sherming Yiu (姚樂怡), Toby Leung (梁靖琪), and Margaret Chung (鍾麗淇) to appear on an episode of her ViuTV talk show Dine-alogue <友枱VIP> to talk about their experiences as actresses in the competitive Hong Kong entertainment industry, and revealed some interesting details along the way.

When asking if they had ever experienced unfair treatment during their time at TVB, Sherming immediately shared that she was once rudely pushed out of her spot by a female artiste while they were doing an event together. Sherming declined to reveal the name of the artiste, but Annie asked if the artiste was a member of the Electric Girls (電波少女), a group that Sherming was once part of. Sherming answered, “She wasn’t a member, but she is your husband’s friend.”

The others tried to get more answers out of Sherming, asking if the artiste is now married or with kids, but Sherming didn’t want to say any more in front of the camera, telling her friends that they can talk about it privately.

Margaret Chung’s debut drama was “Detective Investigation Files III” (1997).

When it came to the topic of experiencing uncomfortable situations—even sexual harassment—in the workplace, Margaret shared, “One of the directors of my very first TV drama kept feeling my hands as he was trying to teach me about acting. The scene actually had nothing to do with hands! It wasn’t until another actor said ‘are you done feeling [her hand] yet?’ when he stopped. At the time, I kept thinking, why me?”

Toby Leung had a similar experience, sharing, “It was obvious, but I didn’t dare to say anything. He was also trying to teach me how to act, and in that process he’s managed touch the sides of my chest. He didn’t stop until someone pointed it out right in front of him.”
