Michelle Chen Portrays Teresa Teng in New Drama

Michelle Chen (陳妍希) will be portraying iconic singer, Teresa Teng (鄧麗君), in the upcoming Mainland Chinese drama, Only You: Teresa Teng <鄧麗君之我只在乎你>. The drama will start airing in May.

In 1995, Teresa passed away when she was only 42 years old due to an asthma attack. However, her legacy still lives today through her beloved songs. The 60 episode series will bring back nostalgia to Teresa’s fans, as the production team will feature over 10 of her classic songs including “Sweet as Honey” (甜蜜蜜), “Small Town Story” (小城故事), and “Only You” (我只在乎你) in the drama.

With respect towards Teresa, many celebrities have promoted the new drama through their social media platforms. Michelle wrote in a recent post, “Thank you Ms. Teng for your warmth and love. Your music will be passed on for generations.”

On Family Life

Many fans are excited to see how Michelle will portray Teresa’s character. In 2016, Michelle married actor, Chen Xiao (陳曉), and welcomed their son. She shared that she would practice singing while taking care of her son since her husband is working too. The family has a wonderful dynamic as they would visit each other on set with their son.

When asked if they would want another child, Michelle responded that since she and her sister are five years apart, she wants her children be five years apart as well. She doesn’t mind the gender, and would be grateful if her child is happy and healthy.

  1. Interested to see how she will physically portray this legendary singer. Currently I don’t see a resemblance.
Looks alone, Charlene Choi bears a better resemblance to Teresa Tang IMO.

  2. Thanks but no thanks. At 60 episodes, the Mainland one is guaranteed to drag…plus modern series have never been Mainland TV industry’s strong point.

Fox Asia will actually be doing a series about Teresa Teng as well — I’d rather watch that one, since, judging from their previous two series, the production values will be higher and of course, better cast.

You’re behind the times and biased as well. Mainland dramas have progressed exponentially with superb production values in the last four years, especially in period dramas which are gaining fans beyond Asia. Modern dramas are also gaining ground.

      1. @msxie0714 she specifically said modern drama, not period! Modern drama from China is still terrible, quite bad actually, in term of script writing, it’s not great. In a year, you might be lucky to get 1 modern series that is good, and it has to be short for it to be good, no lengthy one seems to be decent, so I’m with @llwy12

      2. @msxie0714 I didn’t say there isn’t any modern cdrama that is good, I said compare to period, there aren’t many. I also said long modern drama tends to suck, when the snail falls in love is like 21 eps, so only ode to joy would be different and classified as long. So again, “you will be lucky to get 1 good one”, which is your ode to joy. And also these dramas are 2 years ago
