Michelle Yeoh on Her Role in Shang-Chi

Hitting cinemas in September, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is set to diversify the Marvel universe with a largely Asian cast starring Simu Liu as the titular character, joined by Awkwafina as Katy, Tony Leung (梁朝偉) as Wenwu, Michelle Yeoh (楊紫瓊) as Jiang Nan, Chen Fala (陳法拉) as Jiang Li and Zhang Meng Er (張夢兒) as Xialing.
Safeguarding a “Mythical City”
Playing Shang-Chi’s teacher Jiang Nan, Michelle shared more about her character’s role in a recent interview. “We’re so happy that we have our first Asian superhero. Not just superhero, but superheroines around him too, while I’m the guardian of a mythical city. These young people come in, they need to learn how to protect history and to protect not just this world, but the worlds that are around us from the locked-away demons. So it’s magic. It’s reality. Many things happening and it’s a lot of fun,” revealed the seasoned actress.
The mythical city mentioned by Yeoh has evoked much excitement from fans, as they believe it might refer to Marvel’s K’un-Lun, a mythical lost city removed from civilization that is protected by Marvel’s Iron Fist as played out in the Netflix series. While it is unlikely that actor Finn Jones will appear as Iron Fist in the movie, fans will get to know about this mythical city very soon.
