Myolie Wu is the Year’s Best Performer for China’s “Everybody Stand By”
The second season of Chinese reality series Everybody Stand By <演員請就位> ended with a bang on December 5, 2020, when the show announced that Myolie Wu has won its Best Performer of the Year award.
Everybody Stand By is a reality competition series produced by Tencent Video, and has 40 actors star in a series of mini films and compete against each other for the year’s best performance. This season’s judges and directors include Chen Kaige (陳凱歌), Derek Yee (爾冬陞), Zhao Wei (趙薇), and Guo Jingming (郭敬明).
On the final episode which aired on December 5, the judges announced that Myolie Wu has won the year’s best performance, succeeding Chinese actor Niu Junfeng (牛駿峰) from season one. Film Queen Kara Wai (惠英紅) presented the award to Myolie.
Myolie was in tears when she received her award. She stated that she is grateful for having such a fortunate career, and expressed that she’s waited 21 years for a chance to work with director Chen Kaige. “I can’t believe that day had come!” she cried.
The former TVB actress also thanked veteran actors Francis Ng (吳鎮宇) and Paul Chun (秦沛), who were among the audience congratulating her, for their unwavering support during the milestones of her career.
Paul also appeared on the same stage with Derek Yee and David Chiang (姜大衛), marking the Everybody Stand By stage as one of the rare stages where all three brothers were seen together.
Myolie did not stop the words of gratitude on her stage. She continued on social media, where she thanked the fans for their ongoing support in the last two decades. She also added, “A netizen had pointed out to me that the last time I won an [acting] award was on December 5, 2011. I can’t believe that I’m going through the same experience the same day nine years later.”
Nine years ago, Myolie won Hong Kong’s TV Queen for her role in the TVB anniversary drama Curse of the Royal Harem <萬凰之王>.
Myolie’s husband Philip Lee (李乘德) also congratulated her on social media.

I agree and I have watched her for years and her acting is average at best and she can only play certain roles. Not a versatile actress at all.

@anon Cannot agree more.Tried watching the program “Everybody Stand By” but it got so painful to watch that I dropped it. The judges (Directors and veteran actor) kept praising her each time, including her performance in “Sheep Without A Shepherd” segment. However, anyone who has seen Kara Hui’s performance of the same segment in another variety program “I am Actor” would have seen the obvious difference in their performances and the amateurish quality of her acting.
Okay, maybe I was been too harsh, it wasn’t amateurish per se but superficial for sure.
Her fans insisted how tough it was to have that segment in one take, yawn.
She isn’t bad, neither is she good and no way versatile.

She definitely can act if you guys bothered to watch her scenes in the competition. She may not started as a good actress but like many others she has improved so much. Seems like the negative comments are personal attack out of jealousy lol..

It is true that she has improved compared to when she just started, but she is in no way a good actress. Some people like her just do not have the innate talent to act well. They can act their whole life and still be a bad actress. Acting just like singing is an innate talent that you either have or you do not. It is true that experience and training helps, but if you are naturally bad then you are still going to be bad regardless of what you do.
Sorry but no one is jealous of her bad to average acting skills. Improving does not mean anything if you are still bad. I cannot believe that she won over better actresses. I bet this thing is rigged.

Sorry if we are so negative re your idol….I agree she has improved but she’s really not a natural. Acting is as much an art as drawing is, if you can’t, you just can’t.
No I’m not jealous lmao. I watched the show and in my opinion, Myolie did not improve at all. I would even say she had better days when she was at TVB. In most of her performances, her acting was over the top. It was only in the last short film that she was somewhat decent. So I was appalled when the judges praised her. Several of the other older actresses who participated on the show were way better. But, I had a feeling she would win the moment she appeared in episode 1. Totally rigged. If it hadn’t been for the in house “audience” votes, she wouldn’t have won. She ranked like 10th in online votes?
