Newly Crowned Miss Hong Kong, Grace Chan, Has a Millionaire Father

Newly crowned Miss Hong Kong, Grace Chan (陳凱琳) not only possesses beauty and brains, she also comes from a rich family. Although it was previously reported that Grace is living with her foster father, she has since clarified that she is staying with her biological parents. When the media dug further, they discovered that Mr. Chan not only owns a luxury home in Kowloon Tong, he also owns several other properties.

Grace chan childGrace was the big winner in this year’s Miss Hong Kong pageant, walking away with the crown and three other awards, including the Miss Photogenic and Tourism Ambassador awards.

Weighing only 87 pounds at 5 feet 4 inches, Grace is naturally thin and although she tried to gain weight during the pageant by eating more, her weight only peaked at 95 pounds. While studying in Canada’s Simon Fraser University, Grace was rumored to have undergone plastic surgery, but she debunked the reports by sharing a childhood photo.

Multi-millionaire Father

When reporters delved further into the beauty queen’s background, they found out that Grace’s home is situated on a 5,000 square feet lot in Kowloon Tong. Mr. Chan had insightfully managed to avoid losses during the 1997 financial crisis by selling several properties, allowing him to pocket more several millions  (HKD). Mr. Chan possesses several commercial lots which he rents out; one retail shop space in Mongkok that is worth more than $20 million HKD.

Surprisingly, the multi-millionaire is amiable and very candid when asked about his net worth. Without much prompting, Mr. Chan shared his financial situation openly. He said, “The house is our ancestral home. I am the executor of the estate. The shops belong to the company.”

When asked about being Grace’s adoptive father, Mr. Chan said that it may have been a misunderstanding that resulted when Grace said that she stayed near Hollywood Plaza in the Diamond Hill area. Mr. Chan happily confirmed, “I am definitely her biological father!”

Charitable Parents

On August 27, Mr. and Mrs. Chan were spotted in downtown Kwun Tong. The couple exuded good manners of the educated upper class. The family are also devout Christians. On this particular day, they were seen lugging bags of donated goods to the Kwun Tong Christian Community Sales Outlet.

  1. Hopefully Grace won’t be like that spoiled brat winner back in 2008. That year was such a disaster.

    1. I remember Miss Hong Kong 2008. Her name is Edelweiss Cheung, 張舒雅. She looked pretty ugly compared to the to other contestants. There is no way how she could beat Skye Chan Sin-Yeung who looks very pretty to me.

      1. Edelweiss Cheung, 張舒雅, also came from a very wealthy family and her family sponsored a lot of TVB programs financially.

      2. Skye looks pretty now but when she competed she looked a disaster. People thought Hilda Leung would win instead I think.

      1. No on the contestant list they listed where each girl was from. Grace was under Paris.

      2. That list wasn’t saying where they’re from it was saying where they went to do their outport shoots

    1. That’s too thin though. She doesn’t look healthy despite how beautiful she is.

      1. Uni, if you compare her photos to other pageant contestants from previous years, her figure looks relatively healthy. She doesn’t have this sick bony structure or her rib cage doesn’t stick out.

  2. Ha! Many young girls say that and when their metabolism slows down in their 30s, they’ll be like most women

      1. Yes, she has the looks to win. But looks + money = 200% guarantee for winning.

      2. It would definitely have helped. Don’t forget …………. 50% of the votes came from the audience (or public).

      3. Since when does wealth = large friendship netowrk.

Many poor people has a large circle of friends and acquaintance. I would say even more so than the wealthy as the rich tend to keep to themselves and a small group of people.

Of course, unless one suggest her family pays for the “expansive connection” which is another way of suggesting they bribe all the voters. LOL!!

    1. That was what I was thinking. What is the purpose of saying she is from a rich family?? Is that the reason that she won??

      1. I did not say bribe, but more votes can easily be generated if her family has good network connections.

I am not saying that Grace Chan is not pretty, but she would definitely get more votes because of good network connections.

    2. Watever! She is indeed very pretty n graceful n u know u cant deny dat her communication skill is apt rite!

      1. Oh, calm down, man. I don’t deny that I would decide to pick her as the winner if I were the sole decision-maker. Based on her looks and communication skills, she deserves to be the winner. But let’s don’t forget the fact that this is still the asian entertainment industry, after all. Money works in this industry. No matter how pretty Grace was or how excellent her communication skills were, her chances to win were only 99% if she didn’t pay money to sure win. I believe Grace knew the rules of the game, and I would not be surprised if she and her family paid money to buy the 1% chance.

TN1, I have nothing against her to be the winner, nor am I trying to make it as though she is the winner because of money, but I’m just stating the reality. You might think she should win regardless she paid money or not, but the reality is she has to pay regardless she wants to pay or not. Think about it. Even if she didn’t pay, other contestants would pay in order to win the pageant. So there is no choice for her if she wants to win–she has to pay. The Miss HK is decided once no person can pay more than the highest one.

50% of the votes are from the public? It sounds funny.

      2. No worries May, I am coooooooooooooool mann. Kinda similar to an auction event huh lol Ill b unprejudiced anyways.

  3. Bubblez:
Another graduate from Simon Fraser University in Vancouver. More winners from Vancouver!

    1. hong kong doesnt have pretty girls anymore. all the pretty girls are from abroad, canada, usa, europe, australia, they are much more attractive than local honkies.

      1. bro r you blind.I went back to the motherland last year and spotted heaps of pretty /beautiful girls in hong kong.Saw a lot in 中環 and 九龍.Also the receptionists who speak mando, canto and english at the help desks/shopping centre are pretty also. And some of the hong kong female cops are pretty as well and helpful when u r lost.

      2. but how did you know that they are local honkies? hong kong is an international city with many overseas chinese coming back for work or vacation.especially in central where there are many foreign companies.the receptionist are from china i think.

      3. the receptionist from china?I dont think so.U can usually tell an abc, bbc, cbc by their accent and tone, dress sense, etc from a local.Just curious when did u last go back to hong kong?

      4. There’s still plenty of pretty girls in HK. Just that they are not keen to sign up in Miss Hong Kong contest, as simple as that.

      5. It doesn’t matter how pretty they look if they have a very ugly personality hidden by layers of makeup.

      6. haha,im just kidding about the receptionist.i was last year in hk on vacation. sehseh maybe right that there are a lot of hidden pearls in hk.

      7. Agreed. Went back to HK and saw lots of pretty girls. Richer parents are all sending their kids overseas to study. Just because they spend a few years there, they are still HKnese. They usually hang out with HK people overseas anyways and hence, these new TVB goddesses can’t speak with a proper English accent.

  4. Beautiful and rich! Hope later on she join TVB series and hopefully she can act lol

  5. In an interview after she won, her older sister was present… and her older sister doesn’t even look “mix” compare to Grace

    1. Have you seen another childhood picture of her? Grace has a twin brother who also looks mixed.

      1. Is that her parents?? They do not look like her biological parents.

    2. I just saw the interview too, and yep her older sister doesn’t look mixed. I guess Grace got the better genes. Too bad her twin brother wasn’t there, I’m curious at what he looks like now.

    3. I think it’s difficult to prove that it’s not her biological father. Perhaps SOMEWHERE before her parents time there was a foreigner that married into the family. It is possible and plus a lot of family records disappeared during the war.

  6. She’s by far the prettiest mshk lately.. she’s prettier than those from the last few years…

    1. Yup – agree as well.

She seems super classy and calm. I hope she’ll do something meaningful to society and not just enter the industry and not contribute back. There have been quite a few notable Miss HK that enjoys giving back to society, definitely applaud those Miss HK.

  7. But her face feature does resemblance of middle east face feature which remain an enigma . Her parents looks pure chinese

    1. Honestly, even if he was not her biological father, he will not straight out admit it because we all know how Asians are about having adoptive kids. They think it is shameful to be adopted or to have adoptive parents. She clearly does not really like her parents but hey that is her private business that she does not want to share. However, if she is adopted, she is lucky to be adopted by such wealthy parents that love her and her brother.

  8. Either way her dad probably paid a nice price tag. She is by far one of the beautiful mhk in the last few years. There is no denial that the winner must have paid TVB some good money. It applies to ALL pageants supported by TVB.

    1. Thanks 🙂
It’s an inspiration to know that fellow SFU people went on exchanges and whatnot 🙂

    2. It was well written and thoughtful. I honestly think she’s a down to earth girl.

Good Luck to Grace. She’s in for some big pressure.

    3. Did Grace Chan win a scholarship? In what? I thought she was nominated in the Exchange Program and she got it (as per her article). I am not sure of the Exchange Programs in Simon Fraser University. But there are a lot of exchange programs in every university in Canada. All you have to do is to submit an application. The chances of getting a spot is very high.

      1. It is now the job of the spin doctor to spin a good past for her and explain everything. But I don’t get what being rich has anything to do with her potential career with TVB or her beauty pageant title.

      2. Her potential career with TVB would depend very much on:

        1) Her acting skills and potentials in acting;
        2) Will she be accepted by Hongkong audience (since she got the highest number of votes from Hongkong people in Miss Hong Kong Pageant Show, she should be well accepted by Hongkong audience)
        3) TVB’s promotion (I think she will be highly promoted)
        4) Her luck in her acting career.

  9. I like her !!!!!!! very pretty not as beautiful as Michelle Grace but kinda looks similar. She DOES NOT look like Raymond Lam’s gf at all.

    1. I still think she has resemblance to Karena, but Grace is more poised, sweeter looking and thinner.

    1. Michelle is clearly mixed and of course has nothing to hide. She even used her real birth name Michele Monique Reis.

  10. Grace chan can go on to win miss Chinese international. …and then continue to win miss world n miss universe….her bro I really as beautiful as her from their childhood pic…hot man n hot girl with blessed parents

    1. I am not sure if she can go that high… Hk has stopped sending their representatives to Ms. Universe, but even if they did, most of them most likely would not place. Not sure if they still send them to Ms World or not. One of the few Ms Hks that has ever placed at both Ms. World and Ms.Universe was Pauline Yeung(Ms. HK 1987).

    2. Grace has that Eurasia, Middle Eastern look whatever they call it. However, her BODY and HEIGHT will be cripples to her if she is chosen to enter.

      1. I think so too. 5’4″ tall in height and 87+ lb. in weight are too short and too thin for a Miss Universe or Miss World.

      2. That’s not true for the height (at least for Miss World). Last year, Canada’s representative for Miss World was 5’4″ as well.

  11. her parents and older sister are quite plain compared to grace. no wonder they thought she was adopted or fostered!

  12. I wonder if they not only pick beauty and brains but wealth too or like a good background

  13. I know Grace through one of her personal childhood friends and I can attest that she is truly a down-to-earth girl. I have met her parents on occasion and I guarantee you she is not adopted. She has an identical twin brother that resides here in Vancouver and is also attending Simon Fraser from the last I’ve heard. Grace is no doubt an attractive young woman and she also has the brains to top it off. However, she has been very sheltered (due to her devoted Christian practices largely) so I’m not sure how the pressures of the entertainment business will have on her. Regarding her weight, there has been much speculation amongst her circle of friends about an eating disorder due to it being so sudden and rapid, but this I’m not too sure about. Hopefully she is able to gain more weight since this skeletal look isn’t too attractive… The one and only downside to her IMO. I wish Grace all the best in her future!

    1. @tffny, your phrase “Regarding her weight, there has been much speculation amongst her circle of friends about an eating disorder due to it being so sudden and rapid, but this I’m not too sure about” is sure to make others wonder if Grace has suddenly lost a lot of weight thereby causing speculation that she’s facing some eating disorder.
This would mean those who said she’s anorexic may be right because your statement contradicts claims that she’s naturally slim or someone who doesn’t gain weight no matter how much she eats.

    2. proof it that you are not just an ordinary crazy fan of grace chan.come with evidence.

    3. So many claim to know this and that celeb. I remember someone here saying they know Aimee Chan and how she was not into Moses and all..But she is now pregnant with his child and has married him… You really wonder about all these people who claim to know this and that celeb. Are they just trying to get attention or make what they say more credible? Who knows?

      1. @HTS, and these supposedly real life ‘friends’ will dish out something unsavoury after they have attested to something good. Who wouldn’t want real friends like that huh?

  14. like the article can attest, i’m not the only one who thinks she’s undergone plastic surgery. her childhood pictures doesn’t prove anything. she could have gotten work done as a child or her father could have easily paid someone to professionally photoshop.

  15. Most TVB actresses are crowned Miss Hong Kong, no wonder their acting skills are poor

  16. I think Grace might have some Uyghur blood or other foreign blood from her ancestors. They technically are considered Chinese, but don’t look completely Chinese, like Grace and her brother (she did say both of her parents are Chinese in the semi-final and now there’s photos that show both of her Chinese-looking parents). I actually think Grace even looks more mixed as a kid than she does now. So either she had some foreign blood from generations ago from her parents or there must have been some mix up there with her biological parent(s) …we’ll never know…genetics are puzzling sometimes. She looks nothing like her parents and her older sister. Maybe she and her brother got the “hidden recessive genes” from a long time ago, search Ken Hirai. He looks more foreign than Grace does (he actually does not look very Asian at all) and his parents are both 100% Japanese. People think he might have some Ainu blood from the past. Sorry for the rant, but Grace is so purdy and elegant! 110% support!

    1. Good speculations OR, they are not her biological parents.None of us would know that. But if they are her biological parents then she must have some sort of foreign blood from her ancestors that she does not know about… That is a possibility.

      1. Perhaps she should go and take a DNA test secretly to see if her parents were hiding the truth from her.

  17. they are starting to look all the same, generic. angelababy types. neither rare or unique. i see dozens of this overly dyed and dolled up look around.

my taste is just diff, i like the kitty lai type. due to media washing of weird fake looking prototypes made by modern technology in their place, we dont see much more classical beauty anymore.

    congrats anyway.

    1. totes agree with you! i am also sick of seeing these generic looks, straight nose, large eyes, sharp chin…etc. i feel like we are no longer looking humans anymore, its like we are judging robots, they have to be this particular program with these particular features…humans should have individual characteristics, we are all special because of the fact we were born different.

  18. Went to take a look and found that Grace is the recipient of several academic scholarships…she really is quite outstanding!

  19. Out of curiosity… How did Grace manage that much cleavage in above bikini photo? She weighs 87 lbs and her chest measurement is 30cm… These numbers are wrong?

  20. Yay! Another sort-of Vancouverite, again (not entirely sure of her complete background of course)!

Last year Miss HK the winner Carat, runner-up Jacqueline, and 2nd runner Tracy all studied & lived many years in Vancouver! Go Vancouver! woot woot
