Raymond Lam Plays Serial Killer in “The Mask”

Although Hong Kong artistes have been heading to Mainland China to earn more money, the majority of them, including ex-TVB actor Raymond Lam (林峯), are often stuck with villainous roles.

Two-time TV Queen and once TVB’s top fa-dan Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), may have grown her Mainland presence over the last few years, but unfortunately still lacks opportunities to play the leading lady – especially in the competitive market in China. Cast in the popular series Story of Yanxi Palace <延禧攻略>, Charmaine plays the villainous and cunning Concubine Xian.

Another TVB favorite, Raymond Lam, recently landed a serial killer role in The Mask <也平凡>. However, this new series is said to have a similar feel as popular American movie, The Dark Knight, from The Batman Trilogy, and Raymond’s character will bear similar characteristics as the mastermind-villain, Joker.

Playing a wealthy son of a tycoon, Raymond is seemingly charismatic and well-loved by the community, but is revealed to be a heartless serial killer. Taking this opportunity to further develop his acting abilities, Raymond sees this as a challenge due to the fact that he has to switch between playing a good guy and an evil villain.

Playing the role as brilliant police officer, Kai Zheng (鄭愷) takes on the role as Raymond’s polar-opposite brother, who ends up being in charge of capturing this notorious serial killer.

Since it has been a while since fans have seen Raymond play an antagonist, viewers are excited to see what Raymond will bring to the screen.

  1. Raymond Lam needs to gain some weight or stop doing things to his face. I miss old Raymond. Used to be such a big fan (Taste of Love, Survivor’s Law) and felt like he was a better actor then.

  2. Raymond did star as the main leads for a few series. But the productions were just not good. It is not as he was shoved into villain roles when he shifted to the mainland to work. He is getting too old for boyish roles and he needs to move onto more serious roles where he can flex his acting skills.
