Selena Lee Shares Experiences After Leaving TVB: Like a Small Town Girl Going to a Big City

Ever since Selena Lee (李施嬅) left TVB, she signed with a new American talent agency and had the opportunity to grow her career. Even with a new agency, Selena returned to TVB to re-film Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV> and to promote TVB’s upcoming drama Barrack O’Karma <金宵大廈>.  While attending her promotional event, Selena provided some insight to her characters in Barrack O’Karma and career development since leaving TVB.

Last Collaboration with TVB

In Barrack O’Karma, Selena will be playing two characters: a prostitute from the 1960’s and a modern-day flight attendant. Speaking of the challenges in playing two different roles, Selena shared, “The prostitute role requires dressing up in a cheongsam and I was required to be really slim. Also, I have many passionate scenes with Joel Chan (陳山聰). When other male characters come to my place, I seductively welcome them by sitting on their thighs, hugging their waist, and being touchy. As a woman, it was hard to accept it but for the role, I let myself go.”

Selena also re-filmed Forensic Heroes IV because of Jacqueline Wong‘s (黃心穎) cheating scandal, “Actually, Barrack O’Karama was filmed for quite some time and Forensic Heroes IV is my last drama [with TVB].” Though Selena is no longer a contracted TVB artiste, she doesn’t cross out the opportunity to work with TVB again.

International Opportunities

Having returned from New York Fashion Week, Selena laughed that she was the most petite out of everyone in attendance, “Everyone was like a giant. They told me to wear high heels and they were afraid of the height difference. For every step other people took, I took one and a half steps, and it was hard to keep up with everyone.”

When asked if Selena would develop her career abroad, she replied, “I want to develop everywhere, broaden my experiences and be more knowledgeable. For example, I saw many stars and the glamour of fashion week. Everyone was so beautiful. Behind me was Nicole Kidman and Kate Hudson, and I was so excited. I was like a small-town girl going to a big city. I also look forward to my next project.”

  1. i am interested in what jobs she has accepted with this american agent. attending ny fashion week was probably one of the jobs but don’t need to sign w/ an american agent for that. other asian artists have been in attendance and they have not raved about their experience about who they saw.

  2. I’m excited to see her broaden her horizons and to see what projects she has in store in this American agency! I’m watching Barrack O’Karma and plan on watching Forensic Heroes IV as well, so I’ll still be supporting her last TVB projects (as of now). (:

  3. Anyone can attend NY Fashion Week as long as they’re willing to pay for a ticket to attend. You don’t need to be a star or even be in the entertainment industry, so I don’t know what the big deal is. Personally, I know a few with deep pockets that can afford and had attended these events.

The real challenge is whether she can land any significant roles in Hollywood. Personally, her acting leaves little to be desired.

    1. @anon True. She’s attractive but never really like her acting or find her interesting to watch. Then again there are so many uninteresting MsHK’s and yet they get to play leads so sometimes life is really about luck too not just a pretty face.

Most Ms HK winners don’t end up being leads outside of TVB anyway. There aren’t many Ada Choi’s and Charmaine Sheh.
