“Sungkyunkwan Scandal” Chinese Remake “In A Class of Her Own” Confirms Premiere Date

Hoping to replicate the same international success South Korean drama Sungkyunkwan Scandal had 10 years ago, China is putting out a Chinese remake, In A Class of Her Own <漂亮书生>. Starring a full cast of rising idols including Ju Jingyi (鞠婧祎), Song Weilong (宋威龙), Bi Wenjun (毕雯珺), and Wang Ruichang (王瑞昌), the series offers viewers a refreshing format that incorporates contemporary and humorous dialogue. The trailer and posters hint at a light-hearted rom-com radiating youthful energy, perfect for the hot summer.

In A Class of Her Own tells the story of Xue Wen Xi (played by Jingyi), a poor girl who disguises herself as a man and works hard to survive by transcribing and copywriting books. In a fateful encounter, she meets Prime Minister Yun’s son Feng Chengjun (played by Weilong), who recognizes her potential to become a scholar and helps her out by enrolling her into Yun Shang Academy, a school that only accepts male students. While there, she becomes good brothers with the intellectual Chengjun, the rebellious Yu Yuexuan (played by Wenjun), and the cold but righteous Lei Zexin (played by Ruichang), who protects her secretly.

Similar to the main cast in the Korean version, the leads in In A Class of Her Own are eye-catching, full of youthful energy, and talented “high flow” actors. Actress Jingyi experienced a surge in popularity after starring in Legend of Yunxi <芸汐传> and The Legend of the White Snake <新白娘子传奇>, while Weilong amassed attention with his older woman-younger man romance with Victoria Song (宋茜) in Find Yourself <下一站是幸福>. Wenjun and Ruichang also found fame through their respective projects Sweet Tai Chi <淑女飘飘拳> and The Eternal Love <双世宠妃>. Ticking boxes in all areas, it is expected that the F4-like lineup will bring about about a cute and heart-fluttering love story that will have fans squealing for more.

In A Class of Her Own is confirmed to premiere on July 23.
