TVB Confirms Reshooting Jacqueline Wong’s Scenes for “Forensic Heroes IV”

Forensic Heroes IV <法證先鋒IV> producer Mui Siu-ching (梅小青) confirmed that she will be erasing Jacqueline Wong (黃心穎) from the upcoming TVB drama following the breakout of her cheating scandal with Andy Hui (許志安), which severely damaged her image.

Jacqueline’s role in Forensic Heroes IV is to be recast and her scenes reshot. Although not the main lead, Jacqueline had a long supporting appearance, with her character arc occupying one-third of the story. Jacqueline had scenes in over 50 filming units, including the Taiwan filming unit. It is estimated that TVB will lose up to HK$10 million for the reshoots.

Raymond Wong Ho-yin (黃浩然), Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), and Selena Lee (李施嬅) are among the actors who are confirmed to take part in the reshooting. Reshots will take place next month and is expected to last two weeks. Selena shared that she has already received notice about the reshots and will “do her best” to accommodate with the scheduling. The actress, whose last drama in her TVB contract with Forensic Heroes IV, joked that she probably broke the record for being the fastest artist to return to the mother station.

Shaun told reporters that he was not given the official date on when the reshots will begin, but is ready to start work again. “I’m currently on my vacation, and will be preparing for my upcoming mini-concert in July. I’ll just won’t have much time to practice my songs.”

Due to TVB’s contract with Chinese broadcasters, Forensic Heroes IV is obligated for a November 2019 release in both China and Hong Kong. As mainland’s broadcasting administration censor controversial and scandalous artists on television, Jacqueline’s scenes would most likely be completely bracketed or deleted once Forensic Heroes IV makes it to broadcast.

In a brief interview with Mui Siu-ching, prior to making the decision of reshooting, Mainland investors had suggested digitally altering Jacqueline’s face, but Mui did not feel comfortable with the idea. “In the end, reshooting the scenes was the best option.”

Jacqueline’s career came to an abrupt halt following the breakout of her affair with Andy Hui, who is married to award-winning singer Sammi Cheng (鄭秀文). They were caught kissing in a leaked taxi dashcam video. Jacqueline was also publicly dating popular actor Kenneth Ma (馬國明) at the time.

Since the scandal, Jacqueline has lost all work, benched by TVB, and dropped by her endorsers. Upcoming TVB dramas that featured her, including The Offliners <堅離地愛堅離地>, Finding Her Voice <牛下女高音>, and The Maid Alliance <丫鬟大聯盟>, now have no broadcast date. Jacqueline’s theme song for Come Home Love: Lo and Behold <愛.回家之開心速遞> has been rumored and replaced with the instrumental version.

  1. 1 million HKD is nothing but a drop in the bucket in the world of media production. If tvb is butthurt about that, they shouldn’t be producing TV series anymore.

  2. Lol Selena Lee should ask for more money. I think it’s too OTT for TVB for deleting JW scenes at least they should warehouse it. Oh they did put instrumental version for CHL I just happen to saw it online 🙂 #Jaynestar

    1. @dimsum5678 I don’t think they had a choice in this instance because of their contract with Mainland. They could warehouse it, but it’s possible they would’ve lost even more money doing so, as it would’ve been a breach of contract and they likely would’ve had to pay compensation for the loss.

The only “good” thing is that Jacqueline was third female lead rather than first or second so they only need to reshoot a third of the series — which is still a lot of course, but at least they don’t have to reshoot the entire thing. The bad thing is that there are definitely going to be consistency issues with the rest of the series so the editing is going to be critical in order to make the series flow together well (an area that TVB has traditionally not been very good at so we’ll see). I read elsewhere that Shaun Tan had asked someone on the production crew about the chances of having to reshoot and they told him there was very little chance so he decided to cut his hair….I wonder now if he will need to wear a wig or they are just going to shoot as is and just hope the audiences don’t notice the change in hairstyles or perhaps find a way to explain it in the series or maybe do something about it during post-production editing….lesson learned for Shaun though – when it comes to this kind of stuff, don’t listen to random production people because most likely they are not going to know….it needs to come directly from either the producer or the execs in order to count!

  3. Agh.. Contractual agreement with China…That sums it up, with the mandatory release in Nov 2019… Sounds like the liabilities will be a hefty amount if they don’t release in Nov 2019… So the re-shoot is a must even if they have to loose money if TVB… That explains why..

    1. @ricky721 Yup….I think that if this were any other series, they aren’t going to bother to reshoot (such as those other 3 series with Jacqueline in them, which they are probably now going to just warehouse indefinitely). But I think people are forgetting that TVB’s target market is now Mainland China, not HK….not only that, there’s also the fact that producers Lau Ka Ho and Mui Siu Ching were hired back by TVB specifically to develop the Mainland arm of their business, which means that every single series they produce will be big budget collaborations with Mainland (in accordance with their CEO’s mandate that at least a quarter of all their series must be co-productions with China), so there’s less flexibility for TVB to do whatever they want, especially if they are under contract (which they obviously are in this case). Yes, it’s a waste of money and resources to have to reshoot (and even though the series is a collaboration with Mainland, no doubt that TVB will be footing the reshoot costs 100%, since it’s their artist who screwed up and put everyone in this position), but like I said earlier, it’s not like they really have a choice…the options are limited. With all that said, I wouldn’t be surprised if, as a result of all this, TVB puts tighter reins on their managed artists in the future and make their contracts even more restrictive than they already are (though whether such a strategy would work in today’s world or not is a different story).

  4. Actually they don’t need to reshoot the drama. Since the scandal broke out, I am sure more viewers would be interested to see how JW looks like esp those who has not heard of her before the scandal. Who knows more pp may talk about it n may boost the ratings.
Why need to waste money to reshoot?

  5. feels good tbh … now she hiding in LA such a cheap girl that can’t face the reality only to run away and hide.
