Yang Mi Reportedly to Star in New Yu Zheng Drama with Xu Kai

Yang Mi’s (杨幂) claim to fame was the 2011 teen drama Palace <>, one of the many Qing Dynasty series in the early 2010’s that kickstarted mainland China’s wave of palace drama romance. While Palace had many controversies during its run (plagiarism among one of them), it undoubtedly shot Yang Mi to unprecedented fame. Palace also became one of Yu Zheng’s (于正) representative works.

Despite the drama’s record-breaking success, Palace was Yang Mi and Yu Zheng’s last full collaboration. Yang Mi only made two more appearances in Yu Zheng dramas since 2011, both as guest appearances. At one point, it was rumored that they had a falling out. Last year, they reportedly made up and was in discussion for another collaboration, but there are no further developments.

Speculations finally came to a stop recently, when Yu Zheng confirmed to a fan that he is in the middle of discussing a new collaboration with Yang Mi. The fan had left a comment on Yu Zheng’s Weibo, asking him if they would get the chance to see Yang Mi collaborating with him again. Yu Zheng responded, “It’s coming soon!”

A netizen source reportedly close to Yu Zheng claimed that Yu Zheng is in the midst of preparing a new modern romance Love’s Pareto Principle <爱的二八定律>, which is slated to being production at the end of the year. According to the rumor, the drama follows a woman who finds love after marriage. She is a career-minded lawyer who is forced by her parents to settle down with an arranged marriage. Initially feeling indifferent and even against the marriage, the newlyweds eventually fall in love after getting to know each other. The male lead will reportedly be the younger Xu Kai (许凯).
