Yang Mi’s Strict Diet to Maintaining Her Slim Figure

Known for her slender frame and pale complexion, Mainland Chinese actress Yang Mi‘s (楊冪) appearance has always been the focus of her fans. Recently, she shared a selfie of herself on the treadmill in tight-fitting clothes that revealed her true figure. Many netizens were shocked and said she was too thin.

Not only does she regularly go to the gym, but she also embraces a strict diet to maintain her slim figure. Yang Mi revealed she only eats seven dumplings for lunch and a healthy salad made up of potato, avocado, boiled egg, corn, lettuce and tomato for dinner. In fact, she is quite disciplined when it comes to eating. In addition to having small portions and many meals throughout the day, she only eats until she is 80 percent full. Yang Mi also adheres to the rule of low oil, low sugar, and low salt.

In addition, the actress makes a note of what she eats every day for long-term dietary planning. After each meal, she’d even spend 45 minutes exercising or walking. When she was on a show, she firmly said it’s impossible for her to gain weight. “This is something that cannot be allowed, this is something that will not happen,” Yang Mi exclaimed.

  1. I prefer to die than live like that. Although, i understand her. When i went to china on holiday, every and i mean EVERY SINGLE older family member told me to lose weight. I weight 50kg and have a bmi of 19.2. In the netherlands where I live, im perfectly healthy. However, after hearing that you need to lose weight from every single person, i truly began to doubt whether i should lose weight. The worse was when i went to buy clothes and they have the one size fit which didnt fit me. So, Yangmi may be under a lot of pressure to maintain her skinny looks. It also doesnt help when chinese people are the worst criticizers of all. They criticise you for everything and weight is one of the primary thing chinese people judge you for

    1. @dreamer
there is great pressure to stay skinny in asia for many reasons, there are just not many fat people around, limited clothing sizes, and social pressure. there is some really sickening discrimination about fat people that just need to change such as the other day i saw a documentary about oversize models in korea. she said she would on a daily basis hear people calling her out being fat, pointing and hear random men on the street say she just ruined their day b/c they say a fat lady.
i feel that sometimes, some gentle reminders/comment about weight is not entirely a bad thing in asia it is is just outright fat people discrimination.

  2. let’s just put it that you won’t look a certain way unless there’s deliberate effort. she’s lucky given that she’s able to maintain the way she wants. there are many out there who put in tremendous effort but still do not look the way they want.

  3. I can understand the need for skinniness when you’re living in overpopulated cities & countries like HK/Japan/Singapore, but to have this mentality spread to a whole continent is just damaging.

Even HK is more accepting now of overweight people (although you still hear a lot of disparaging comments, but at least there’s popular representation.)

This just seems like the perfect storm for mental illness to me. You have a busy & stressful work environment, coupled with critical community and then having access to some of the tastiest and quickest food in the world. Definitely would make me cranky if I can’t partake or release myself from that.

      1. @prettysup1 space is limited and so there’s naturally some pressure to keep things small/thin. you see this as a trend amongst all the smaller nations or overpopulated cities, even NY.

  4. It really takes a lot of discipline to stay skinny. No pain, no gain. As long as she does it a healthy way.

  5. Ehh, I actually eat like this, I’m not that fond of meat. I like to go to the gym too and I’m totally healthy. Is this kind of meal considered as strict diet?

    1. @mie2101
it’s restrictive only if you workout like a superhero and eat like a bird. i still wouldn’t call yang mi’s diet restrictive. there are many things she can’t eat but it is not restrictive like a body builder or a superhero actor diet. yang mi’s diet is actually pretty non-restrictive compare to the ones that i know.

  6. She’s known to munch on snacks while filming (it was lotus pods though, so still healthy). Actors snack a lot more while working, this meal planning is probably for the day to day to keep fit
