Ali Lee Has a Forgetful Habit

Ali Lee (李佳芯) attended a dementia awareness event in Tsuen Wan. Previously releasing a short film about dementia, Ali had taken on multiple roles as the actress, producer, director, and scriptwriter. She candidly expressed her desire to shoot another film if given the opportunity. Aside from dementia, she also hopes to highlight issues related to emotional and mental health.

Ali joked she has always been forgetful, admitting she showed symptoms of dementia. She laughed, “I’ve been forgetful for a long time and I did wonder about myself. People told me, ‘You’ve always been forgetful. Don’t worry–it means you’re fine.’” She shared her most forgetful moment was agreeing to appear on Lai Lok Yi’s (黎諾懿) show A Chef and a Gentleman <懿想得到>, but completely forgetting she had filming work on the same day. She is still teased by Lai Lok Yi about the incident.

Asked whether she forgets her lines while filming dramas, Ali replied, “Reading the script is fine. I forget it after reading–there’s no need to store it in memory.” Asked if she would like to completely erase unhappy memories, she said, “I wish I could, but it’s okay. Having those unhappy emotions helps you better appreciate the happy moments.”

Ali will be heading to Malaysia in December to promote The Exiled <義和>. Currently she is planning her family’s annual vacation, “This is the biggest project of the year. I have to plan the entire trip myself. When I travel on my own, I don’t plan anything. I hate planning!”

Recently, singer Gigi Yim (炎明熹) announced she is setting up her own studio. When asked if Ali has any advice for her, Ali responded, “Is this a trend now? It seems like a lot of people are setting up their own studios because it gives them more freedom.” Since Gigi’s studio has four people, Ali joked the staff count is higher than hers so she should ask Gigi for tips. Asked what the hardest part of running her own studio is, Ali said, “You have to handle the discussions yourself. Luckily, I can leave the pricing negotiations to my staff.”

Asked whether she has ever encountered situations where people pretended to discuss work just to meet her, Ali laughed and said, “Maybe, but I didn’t notice. I’ve been really lucky so far–everyone I met have been genuinely interested in working together.”
