Ali Lee Confirms Leaving TVB

Frozen by TVB for nearly two years, Ali Lee’s (李佳芯) visibility in dramas have diminished significantly. Discouraged by lack of opportunities, Ali ended her TVB contract in December and terminated their 12-year work relationship.

Ali was dropped from big projects such as Big White Duel 2 <白色強人 2> and her appearance in last year’s TVB Anniversary celebrations were censored when the show was aired in China. Ali’s most recent project was Mahjong Orchestra <麻雀樂園>, costarring opposite Shaun Tam (譚俊彥), which has yet to be broadcast.

At a promotional event, Ali spoke about her departure from TVB. “I’ve always been a low-key person There wasn’t a specific need to mention it. Things fluctuate very often in this field of work. The world is so small. There will definitely be chances to work together [with TVB] again in the future. I walked around to take some photos at TVB Studios before leaving. I just didn’t post any on social media. There’s no need for any special gesture. It’s all in the heart.”

Admitting she had discussed her contract with TVB for a lengthy time before deciding to leave, Ali added, “I didn’t set any specific terms. Requirements are discussed by both parties. Since we could not reach a clear consensus, the time just ticked by until my contract just ended.”

With Mahjong Orchestra still yet to air, Ali expressed she would be willing to accommodate and attend any promotional activities if needed.

On what her new direction will entail, Ali said, “I prefer to stay consistent with what I am familiar with and places that I know. Even though that is my preference, I also want to embrace new challenges.”

  1. Such a shame as Ali is a great actress, I enjoyed watching her. Apparently, as she has offended China, it will be hard for her to secure any decent roles or sponsorship as everything is dominated by China’s market. I think her career is pretty much over. Hope she finds something meaningful next.
