Nancy Wu Picks Up Adventure Sports for Akin

Two-time TV Queen Nancy Wu (胡定欣) has seen enormous changes in her life in recent years. After marrying surgeon Akin Chan (陳健華) last October, she has been elevated to the status of doctor’s wife. Recently, she appeared as a guest on Sharon Chan‘s (陳敏之) online program “Chi Chat”, where host Sharon revealed that she burst into tears on the spot on receiving Nancy’s wedding photos, because what “she most hoped for was to see her friend have a complete and happy marriage”.

Not Yet Used to Being Called “Mrs. Chan”

Speaking about finally becoming “Mrs. Chan,” Nancy wore a radiant smile, laughing as she said she was still adjusting to the new title. She shared a funny incident from their residential complex. “A while back, the two of us were walking out together, and when we got to the podium area, a few of the estate staff were standing there, and they called out ‘Mr. Chan, Mrs. Chan’… I’m not used to it, because at work everyone calls me Nancy. I’m really not very used to it.”

Going from a single career woman to a wife, Nancy admitted that the biggest change in her life was learning to think of the other person: “The most obvious thing is that you can’t just think about yourself anymore. Before, when I was single and living alone, you could sleep whenever you wanted, and however you wanted to pull the blanket over yourself, you could. But when you have a partner, even more so, I need to let you know that I’m giving you peace of mind. Or when you tell me something, you want me to know that you also want me to feel at ease,”

Nancy Overcomes Fear of Heights to Skydive with Akin

Nancy, who has always been afraid of heights and doesn’t know how to ski, actually gave many “firsts in life” in order to accommodate the challenge-loving Dr. Chan. She said sweetly: “Because I didn’t know how to ski, and I’m afraid of heights, it was only because I met him that I started skiing with him!”

The craziest thing was that during their wedding trip to New Zealand last year, they even challenged a 15,000-foot skydive! Nancy recalled the thrilling experience, saying it was all to fulfill her husband’s wish. “When it came to the skydive, you really want to experience it with him once, because I knew he really wanted to jump. We had originally booked it in Wanaka, but the weather wasn’t good so we couldn’t jump, and he was very unhappy. I could feel that he really wanted to try this thing, so then we had to go to Queenstown before we could jump,”

Recalling the moment of jumping from high altitude, Nancy said it was the craziest thing in her life: “I really wanted to do this thing with him once. I jumped first, and in the recording I could see him watching me fly out… Actually, you can’t calculate it—how many seconds before you have to pull the first parachute. I just thought, wow! Nancy actually did something like this, I was overjoyed! Because you won’t do it often, I think doing it once, I’ll always remember that time,”

Embracing the Unknown with New Song

Nancy’s new song “Unknown Is Fine Too” <未知也好> expresses her life experiences and insights. Regarding rumors that her husband funded her to release the song to fulfill her dream, Nancy said: “Don’t talk so much about him! He’s not responsible for helping me release a record—he’s only responsible for listening!” She concluded with her philosophy on how a couple should get along: “Being together isn’t about changing the other person; it’s about complementing each other, not about changing.”
