Zhao Liying Focused on Her Health
Chinese actress Zanilia Zhao Liying (趙麗穎) sparked widespread concern among the public when she was rushed to the hospital in August after falling ill suddenly. More than a month later, her official team released an update on her current condition, stating, “She has completed a comprehensive health checkup, and her status has stabilized. However, she currently has no plans to join new filming productions and is prioritizing rest and recovery.”
Diagnosed with Hypoglycemia and Electrolyte Imbalance
Recalling the incident on August 25, Zhao Liying arrived at a commercial event venue on time when she suddenly experienced symptoms including dizziness, cold sweats, and weakness in her limbs. After resting in her car for about 40 minutes, she was still unable to take the stage and was ultimately transported to the hospital for treatment. She was diagnosed with severe hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) combined with an electrolyte imbalance. This marked the first time in her nearly 20-year career that she had to cancel a work commitment on short notice due to health reasons. Upon her discharge, standing at 168 cm tall, her weight had dropped below 50 kg, making her visibly emaciated.
In her early years, the actress suffered a lumbar spine injury after falling off a horse while filming Palace II <宮鎖沉香>, which left a prominent bony protrusion on her back. During the filming of Princess Agents <楚喬傳>, she also suffered knee effusion and fractured ribs. Because of this history, many speculated that her work hiatus was triggered by a relapse of old injuries.
In response to the public’s concern and speculation, Zanilia’s team issued a formal response. Regarding work arrangements—a topic of high interest to fans—the team stated, “She continues to read scripts, but regarding filming schedules and other plans, as Jiejie (Zhao Liying) is currently resting and adjusting under medical advice, there is no content or plan to share at this time.”
