“Goodbye UFO” Leads with 10 Nominations at the 44thHong Kong Film Awards

The 44th Hong Kong Film Awards announced its nomination and moviegoers are eager to see this year’s winners. Drama film Goodbye UFO emerges as this year’s top contender after sweeping 10 nominations.

After previously winning the Best Film Award at the Hong Kong Film Critics Society Awards, Goodbye UFO is turning heads at the 44th Hong Kong Film Awards. The film is garnering 10 nominations, including Best Film, Best Director, Best Screenplay, and other acting and technical awards.

Although the film was released in 219, producer and screenwriter Amy Chin (錢小蕙) expressed her surprise for the film’s success, and said, “It turns out that a dream, really can bring out hope! Thank you to the industry for their support. It was a tough journey for ‘Goodbye UFO’ to get to where it is today. Shu Qi’s “Girl” Gets Nominated for Three Major Creative Awards

Making her directorial debut, Shu Qi’s (舒淇)  film, Girl <女孩>  is being recognized at this year’s Hong Kong Film Awards. Shu Qi is nominated for Best Director, Best New Director and Best Screenplay. It is worth noting the Shu Qi previously won Best Director at the Busan International Film Festival and cementing her directing talents on the international stage. Shu Qi’s return to the Hong Kong is highly anticipated.

“Girlfriend” Emerges as the Dark Horse

Although Girlfriend <女孩不平凡> will be released on March 5th, the film is building interest after actress Elizabeth Tang (鄧濤) secures two nominates in her first feature film: Best New Performer and Best Supporting Actress.

Fala Chen Vying for Best Actress

Psychological film Peg O’My Heart receives four nominations and its actress Fala Chen (陳法拉) is this year’s favourite to win the Best Actress Award.

In the film, Fala’s character goes through emotional turmoil from the beginning of the film to the end. Speaking about her nomination, Fala shares. “It has been 10 years since I have returned to Hong Kong to film a Hong Kong movie. I am deeply moved to receive this nomination. I am very grateful that my Hong Kong colleagues and audiences did not forget about me. I am also very grateful to director Nick Cheung (張家輝)and producer Chung Chun (鍾珍) for giving me this opportunity, and to the entire team for making my character have so much depth.”
