Kevin Cheng Won’t Spoil His Son

Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎) and Kenneth Ma (馬國明) appeared at TVB City to promote their medical drama Kids’ Lives Matter <星空下的仁醫>. They announced that the premiere episode achieved an average of 23.2 points over seven days across various platforms, which is higher than the initial reported 18.5 points in local Hong Kong ratings. The pediatric-themed drama is also well-received in China.

Viewers have been talking about how Kevin and Kenneth are strong contenders for TVB Best Actor this year, but the good friends humbly praised each other instead. Kevin joked, “I’m just making a cameo, and we should leave the awards for those who are fighting in TVB.”

As it has been four years since Kevin has appeared in a TVB drama, his wife Grace Chan (陳凱琳) would rush home every day at 5 p.m. to take care of their children and watch it. When Kevin complained that he has no status at home and is being bullied by his elder son, reporters asked if 2-year-old Rafael has become a spoiled prince. Kevin quickly clarified that while Rafael is in the Terrible Twos, but he would be a strict father if necessary to curb undesirable behavior.

“I’m afraid he’ll get upset if he sees this interview in the future! He’s at the age where he is starting to get physical. He can’t fully express himself with words yet, so he will hit you if you take away his toys. But I would immediately put a stop to this. If it’s something small, I will let him have his way,” Kevin said.

Hoping to rebuild his image of fatherly authority, Kevin added, “He isn’t scared of me, and is very mischievous now. He’s also really good at acting–my wife says he is just like me. So we pit our acting skills against each other at him.”

With two young boys, Kevin would usually stay home if he is not working or playing sports. He finds it easier to invite friends over to his own home, but teased Kenneth for spending all his time with his girlfriend Roxanne Tong  (湯洛雯), “I had asked all of friends to come over for dinner on the day we had a category 8 typhoon, but Kenneth was the only one who couldn’t make it.”

Kenneth shot back, “Can you not schedule a gathering during a category 8 typhoon?!”
