Mother of “Empresses in the Palace” Actress Dies from Car Crash

Empresses in the Palace <后宫·甄嬛传> actress Seven Tan Songyun (譚松韻) shot to fame soon after starring as Consort Chun in the 2011 hit palace drama, but not long after wishing everyone a happy new year, she disappeared from social media. Today, it was revealed that her mother had died from a car crash.

On December 21, 2018 at approximately 11 p.m., a 55-year-old woman suffered severe injuries after getting hit by a hit-and-run drunk driver in Sichuan, China. She died from her injuries 23 days later. The driver, a 28-year-old male of the surname Ma, has been arrested and is currently awaiting for trial.

According criminal law in China, a defendant charged with a hit-and-run offense that result in death can be sentenced to 10 years, up to life imprisonment and even capital punishment. This incident has attracted widespread media attention, as it has resulted in one fatality and two injuries.

Seven immediately flew back to Sichuan after getting news of her mother’s accident. She was able to spend time with her mother in her final days. Seven has said in an interview that she is most thankful to her parents, as they carried huge economic burdens to support her education. Her mother once told her, “As long as you want it, we will sacrifice everything we have to give it to you.”
