Ruco Chan Opens Up About Finding Love with Phoebe Sin

Hong Kong actor Ruco Chan (陳展鵬) recently gave an interview and shared his love story with his wife, Phoebe Sin (單文柔). The couple have been married for eight years and Ruco continues to express his gratitude for his wife’s sacrifices over the years.

Meeting Phoebe at Miss Hong Kong Pageantry

Many fans will remember that Phoebe competed in Miss Hong Kong 2016 when Ruco was one of the judges for the finals. For the Miss Photogenic category, Ruco complimented Phoebe’s potential at winning the award. When asked if Ruco fell in love with Phoebe at the first sight, he admitted that is wasn’t and added, “Back then, she wasn’t ‘curvy,’ she was chubby, but when I saw her, I felt a strong urge to protect her and support her.”

After the pageantry, Ruco and Phoebe frequently crossed paths due to work, but they didn’t get close until they met at a party and took pictures together.  Ruco already had feelings for her at the time, but Ruco Chan acted professionally and didn’t rush into pursuing her. He revealed that he used the excuse of “taking a photo” to start messaging her on social media: “I asked her to send me a photo because it was taken on her phone, but I didn’t WhatsApp her. Instead, we chatted in the Instagram inbox.”

When asked about the time when Phoebe said that she had a crush on Ruco, Ruco quickly clarified, “She was my image consultant. She said I was a good man. It was just her way of showing affection. I liked her more!”

Media Put Pressure on Their Relationship

When asked what it was about his wife that finally won him over, Ruco said it was because she trusted him. Ruco shared, “From a young age, I’ve always been easily misunderstood. If I don’t say anything, or when I say something, people easily misunderstand, but not her. She trusts me.”

After Ruco and Phoebe went public with their relationship, they also became the focus of the media’s attention. Although there were a lot of gossip about their relationship, Ruco was unbothered and believed that the truth would prevail. However, Phoebe was a newcomer and Ruco didn’t want her to suffer from the media’s pressure.

Ruco explained, “At the time, many magazines reported on it. If you don’t speak up or comment, they’ll just assume. I didn’t want her to be affected by this shadow, so my reaction was very strong. Many people thought I was being rude and said I was acting pretentious. I knew very well what I was doing. Besides, we were already dating and almost (married), so I had to protect her first.”

Phoebe’s absolute trust in him moved Ruco Chan: “My mother wasn’t feeling well and many reporters rushed to take pictures of her. I told Phoebe not to go out for a week, so she really didn’t go out for a week.” At that time, Ruco Chan had to fly to Hengdian to film Succession War <天命> for two months, and Phoebe waited for him silently in Hong Kong. Phoebe’s trust made Ruco Chan feel that she was “the right person”.

Ruco Proposed Twice Before Succeeding

The couple dated for about two years before getting married in 2018. When asked about the proposal, Ruco Chan described it as “old-fashioned.”

The first time he proposed, Ruco secretly slipped the ring onto Phoebe’s finger while she was sleeping . Phoebe was completely unsatisfied and said, “That’s it? I was sleeping! No, you have to do it again.”

Ruco Chan later formally proposed in England with flowers, and finally won Phoebe over. Ruco shared, “She said, ‘You have so many tricks up your sleeve when you’re filming, why was it not romantic?’ I replied, ‘It was just filming.'”

Although Ruco and Phoebe have an age gap of 13-years, Ruco claimed their personalities are very compatible, and that mutual understanding and trust are key to maintaining their relationship. Ruco added, “Simplicity may not be the greatest happiness, but happiness is definitely simple.”
