Netflix’s The Glory is gearing up for its premiere on December 30, with stars Song Hye Kyo, Lee Do Hyun, Im Ji Yeon, and Park Sung Hoon attending its recent press conference.
The Glory tells an angsty revenge story following aspiring architect Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo) dropping out of high school due to severe bullying by her wealthy classmate Park Yeon Jin (Im Ji Yeon). She encounters her perpetrator years later, and sets out to avenge herself and other victims with a meticulous plan.
Song Hye Kyo Wants to Challenge Herself With New Character
Asked why she agreed to the role, Hye Kyo replied that she trusted screenwriter and director. “I also felt intrigued by the script. I haven’t acted in [this genre], so I was eager to challenge myself.”
After the teaser was released, many fans pointed out how Hye Kyo looked different and did not seem like her usual self. The actress explained that most viewers were accustomed to seeing her in rom coms, so there may be some who find it difficult to accept her new role. Regardless, she stated, “I had a lot of fun while filming because I got to try something new.”
Hye Kyo and Ji Yeon Slap Each Other
Similar to Ji Yeon, Hye Kyo felt one of the most memorable scenes was mutually slapping Ji Yeon. “I’ve acted for many years, but this was the first time I was actually slapped. When Ji Yeon hit me at first, I felt my mind go blank and I couldn’t remember any of my lines.” They also shared that they wrapped up the scene with handprints on their faces and even had to apply ice to continue filming.
Popular screenwriter Kim Eun Sook also revealed that she prepared the script by reading up on many articles about school violence and discovered that most of the victims do not want any material compensation, but rather want the perpetrator to sincerely apologize to them. She hopes the drama can raise awareness on the impact of bullying, and enable victims to feel supported in some way.
The Glory will be broadcast in two seasons with eight episodes each. The second season will be released in March 2023.
