On the Set of “Tiger Cubs 2” with Linda Chung

TVB’s police action drama, Tiger Cubs 2 <飛虎II> has begun shooting in Hong Kong! The 20-episode police procedural is a direct sequel to 2012’s Tiger Cubs, which starred Joe Ma (馬德鐘), Jessica Hsuan (宣萱), Him Law (羅仲謙), Oscar Leung (梁烈唯), and Mandy Wong (黃智雯). Jessica, who ended her contract with TVB last year, turned down the offer to return in the sequel. Linda Chung (鍾嘉欣), in a brand new role, was cast to replace Jessica as the drama’s new female lead.

Linda portrays a “bipolar, violent, ruthless, and impulsive” Criminal Intelligent Bureau investigator who was traumatically tortured after triads discover her undercover identity. On set, Linda and guest star Johnson Lee (李思捷), who portrays a blonde-haired triad member, filmed a scene where Johnson discovers Linda’s identity and beats her, later tossing the bound and gagged Linda into the sea.

The 29-year-old actress admitted that she was quite frightened about that day’s scenes, expressing that she cannot swim. “I get really scared if I have to do a scene underwater, and I’ve never tried opening my eyes underwater either,” said the Miss Chinese International winner.

She recalled her first scene underwater as a “devastating” experience and said that she actually had a moment where she thought she would really drown. Linda then said, “Out of my family, only my father can swim. I tried to take swimming lessons when I was still in school, but I somehow could not learn it. That’s why I don’t like water activities.”

Linda filmed her Tiger Cubs 2 underwater scene in a swimming pool. Having to be stationed at the deep end of the pool, TVB prepared a platform for Linda to stand on while shooting the scene.

Tiger Cubs 2 is slated for a summer 2014 release.

  1. The make-up on Linda is really good! She looks genuinely hurt….lol…

  2. that is the worst picture i’ve seen of linda!

    1. …WELL, I’m glad and I think she’d be glad to to here that. I dont think she’d be too happy ifpeople thought a bashed up look is the best appearance of her.

  3. that’s great makeup linda has! and her role is a breakthrough!

“Linda portrays a “bipolar, violent, ruthless, and impulsive” Criminal Intelligent Bureau investigator who was traumatically tortured after triads discover her undercover identity. “

  4. With pinning her hair up she looks more convincing for the role even without a scar on her arm.

  5. Her looks still does not convince she’s tough or violent. She’s just an a average good girl/OL image that got beaten up. Why even pick her for the role??

    1. I agree. She should cut her hair short ala Jessica Hsuan or Charmaine Sheh. She should also gain weight to build muscles. Her current physique does not resemble a ‘tough and violent’ cop but more of a weak damsel in distress.

      1. she cant cut her hair, else she’ll look like wu chun. besides she can look tough by not smiling. she smiled to the press in this photo. u never know if she resemble or not until u actually watch the full scene.

      2. She might look like Wu chun, but I don’t think that’s a good enough reason to not cut her hair short. it doesn’t have to be a tomboy cut, a sharp bob cut will do the job. Myolie cut her hair short for TITS2 despite it was against her wishes. Yes, she can look tough when she is not smiling. But If she cut her hair short and build a more muscular body, it’s not only more convincing for her role, it also shows her professionalism as an actress. An actor not only has to play the part, but to look the part as well. Since linda is not entirely convincing in the ‘looks’ dept, she has to rely more on her acting skills to succeed. We’ll just have to wait and see

      3. I’m pretty sure Linda can’t cut her hair due to contract problems like Fala.

      4. She did try Wu chun in one of Eric Tsang’s CNY films, and she got scolded by him because she was not doing it properly and the ngs. She ain’t a fighter at all

  6. I think this could be her breakthrough role yet again. You don’t need to look violent to be violent. Some worse villains are those who whispers, those are the scariest types since you don’t know what they will do.

    1. I agree. You don’t have to be all loud and rowdy to look dangerous. This is an extreme example but Anthony Hopkin’s portrayal of Hannibal Lecter was amazing, he seriously seemed like he could kill you within moments even when he was casually painting or listening to classical music. And he didn’t have an ounce of muscle on him. I think Linda could pull off the role, she’s a capable actress. I just hope the writers don’t screw it up with bad dialogue.

      1. Linda is usually good in roles against type.

  7. It is a bit strange and unusual that Linda Chung cannot swim as most kids in Canada take swimming lessons when they are young.

    1. That is not true. Where did you hear that from? I never heard such a thing before. Plus she said she took swimming lesson but still cant swim.

    2. Frankly, I was quite surprise to read that besides Linda, Bernice Liu and Grace Wong also can’t swim either cos’ like what you said about Canadian kids also holds true for most American kids too. Wonder if the trio are afraid of deep water?

      1. what, Grace and Bernice cant swim??? That comes as a surprise for some reason…but in her series with Roger, Johnson Lee etc. atm, Grace had a scene in the ocean sea water…are you sure she cant swim??..

  8. I’m really looking forward to this but it will only air next year.

  9. haha she really looks like elaine ng, that woman who plays michael miu’s ex-wife in highs and low

    1. LOL! NOW THAT YOUVE MENTIONED…she does!

  10. I’m so excited for this series now but sadly we have to wait around a year till it airs if it does air in summer 2014.

  11. Linda cant swim is bcuz she is hydrophobic. She would need to progress slowly doing baby activities such as acclimating herself to water from wading in very shallow water, then floating before actual swimming lessons with proper stroke and breathing techniques which does take a lot of time especially if she is really afraid.

  12. Honestly she displays her best acting abilities on those the opposite of her actual self. A Journey Called Life is her best work to date, she seems to have more fun playing roles that are the complete opposite of her. She’ll be fine in this, the hair is not really a problem. Many women in the force have long hair, it’s the acting that matters more than the image. Besides I don’t think she will look too good if she chopped her hair

    1. I heard that it’s actually harder to play character’s that are more similar to their own self..or characters that are so neutral/very nice, positive etc. It’s easier to play more outrageous characters because they are able to play with different facial expression or what not. But of course, i’m not saying this is true for ALL actors…just saying what i’ve read or heard from interviews and stuff.

  13. O wowww! She looks kinda different with those touchups n such a loooooooooong wait for TC2 mann!

Y care abt short/long hair n she can just simply tie it up whichever way I supposed! Gals with muscled arms n physique r not a pretty sight btw.

    1. imo, actors really have to learn how to ditch their looks, and focus on their acting in order to survive in the industry. Good looks is not forever, it;s their acting performances that would leave a good long lasting impression on the audience. Long hair, short hair, muscled arm or not, if an actress cared so much about her outside appearance to the point where audience cannot relate or find any parrallel between their image to their character then the actress pretty much has failed on successfully convincing the audience of her overall performance IMO. Of course im not saying that then in order to survive in the industy and be successful, one must completely neglect their looks and just act their hearts out, but when they are 40, 50, 60 etc. the issue of long hair short hair fat thin or whatever would not matter as much anymore, their acting would be the main thing that would keep them going……

  14. definitely a breakthrough role if the character is written well and she carries it well. Looking forward to this for Linda!

  15. well then, we’ll just have to watch the series to see if she literally ‘sinks or swims’ in her role 😛

i’m sure the producers will somehow portray an icecube that seems impenetrable but they’ll make sure we see a sliver of the maiden in distress (that HKers like her so much for!)
