“Cold War 2” Releases New Character Posters with Chow Yun-fat

Cold War 2 <寒戰II>, sequel to the award-winning 2012 Hong Kong police thriller of the same name, will be shooting into Hong Kong, China, and Taiwan theaters on July 8, 2016. The film sees the return of directors Longman Leung (梁樂民) and Sunny Luk (陸劍青) at the helm, as well as the comeback of lead stars Aaron Kwok (郭富城), Tony Leung Ka-fai (梁家輝), Charlie Young (楊采妮), Aarif Lee (李治廷), and Eddie Peng (彭于晏), comprising their original roles.

Cold War 2 continues where Cold War left off—Joe Lee (Eddie Peng), son of former acting DCP Waise Lee (Tony Leung), is arrested and charged for his terrorist attack on the police force, an operation known as “Cold War.” However, Joe escapes from incarceration with the help of a mysterious group, and the Hong Kong Police Force is once again left in a disarray. CP Sean Lau (Aaron Kwok) has to step forward once again to stop Joe, but Joe is not the only criminal threatening to destroy the police force.

On Sunday, Edko Films released Chinese character posters for the film, which introduces new cast members Chow Yun-fat (周潤發) and Taiwanese actor Tony Yang (楊祐寧). In the sequel, Chow Yun-fat plays a government personnel questioning the police force’s investigative methods, while Tony Yang plays a former British soldier who has his own personal agenda in the case.

Tony Leung said Cold War 2 is a direct continuation of the first film, and it focuses more on the development and relationships between the characters. He said his role will continue to be the protector of his son, who has entered a point of no return. Tony said, “[Joe] never changed. The environment, his experiences, and everything that has happened to him so far has put him into a point of no return. He’s forced to do things that he originally didn’t want to do.”

Aaron Kwok, who plays Sean Lau, said, “Not only does he have to deal with Tony Leung’s character, there is also another mysterious force that’s trying to knock him down.” To protect himself and his family, his role would employ some extreme measures to keep everyone safe.
