Dylan Wang and Yang Chaoyue in “Fox Spirit Matchmaker” Followup?

Fox Spirit Matchmaker <狐妖小紅娘> is a Chinese romance manhua by Tuo Xiaoxin (庹小新), which were adapted into a successful animation and video game. This year, three dramatic adaptations will be in the works. As the story encompasses various arcs, Yang Mi (楊冪) and Gong Jun’s (龔俊) The Yuehong Chapter <月紅篇> is nearing completion and awaiting broadcast. Two additional chapters are also gearing up for production with a big cast list.

The Zhuye Chapter <竹葉篇> has not started filming, but the female lead is reportedly Cecilia Liu Shishi (劉詩詩). The male lead has cycled through numerous names from Li Xian (李現), Tan Jianci (檀健次), Yang Yang (楊洋), Chen Xiao (陳曉), to Lin Gengxin (林更新). Many thought the role was Lin Gengxin’s, but unexpectedly newcomer Zhang Yunlong (張雲龍) is now attached to the project. Netizens were shocked, as they thought Cecilia’s costar Liu Yuning (劉宇寧) in A Journey to Love <一念關山> was already a step down given her level of popularity, but now she was cast with a newcomer.

Meanwhile, The Wangquan Chapter <王權篇> centers on the love story between a soldier and butterfly. The male lead was initially rumored to be Leo Wu Lei (吳磊) but it is now likely Dylan Wang (王鶴棣), who is the hottest actor in the mid-twenties right now. With Yang Chaoyue’s (楊超越) name attached to the project, netizens objected due to her shaky acting in The Journey of Chongzi <重紫>. Worried her performance would affect Dylan, many netizens left harsh comments such as, “How many dramas does she have to ruin?” and “If she’s in it, then I won’t watch.” Others are willing to give her a chance, as her new drama Love You Seven Times <七時吉祥> has potential to become a hit.

  1. I think Yang Chaoyue is very cute, but such a shame that her acting really hasn’t improved much. I tried to watch Journey of Chongzi, but it felt like another reiteration of Journey of Flower where the teacher and student love story has been beaten to death.

I don’t know why we’re calling Zhang Yunlong a newcomer. He’s been in the industry for over 10 years. Granted he doesn’t have much if any work where he’s the male lead, but he’s been in quite a few dramas and films.

  2. Liu Yuning’s experience in acting should be less than Zhang Yunlong yet ZYL is considered a newcomer?
    YCY cannot act.

  3. If each of these chapters take 40eps, imma kill someone lol. They might as well call this 聊齋 and be done with it lol -.- I have zero confidence in any of these actors lol

  4. Yes I’m also disappointed by YCY’s casting. I tried to watch Journey of Chongzi but it was such a flop – her acting was wooden and Jeremy had two toned face throughout. It was unbearable. I dropped after 0.5 episode. Now I’m sad because she’s leading the drama of one of my fav book’s Love You Seven Times. I desperately wish she could do better, but not holding out too much hope.

I’m surprised they managed to rope Dylan into this drama – the lineup is star-studded, sure, but to cast a flopping FL like YCY and him together, seems like a dumb idea. Way to drag both of them down.

    1. Lol, Im also interested in that 7 lives time one because it does look interesting. Maybe that drama will do a TTJ lol, focus solely on the ML, plus with 40eps limit n 7 lives. We don’t have long for each part lawl. But hot damn, 7 lives, I hope it’s not setting the new trend: the more lives the better. Though 10 lives in L&R still scar me

      1. If they do it right, it is absolutely doable in 40 episodes. I watched this web drama recently that basically had the same premise – the ML/FL went through 5 lives or something in the span of 23 episodes (each like 15 min long.) With 40 long episodes they absolutely can fit all their lives in (although i didn’t actually remember the leads in the book getting thru all 7 lives…maybe my memory is faulty.) In any case, getting the right director and editor for this drama will make a difference (esp since they flopped on the FL choice.)
