Kevin Cheng Hints He Won’t Attend Kenneth Ma’s Wedding

Known for bringing their close “sibling” relationship from on-screen to off-screen after collaborating in A Fistful of Stances <鐵馬尋橋>, Kevin Cheng (鄭嘉穎), Kenneth Ma (馬國明), Natalie Tong (唐詩詠), Stephen Wong (黃嘉樂), and Jazz Lam (林子善) often got together for friendly gatherings. However, Kevin seems to have distanced himself from his former costars and was absent from meetups.

Recently, Natalie shared a photo on social media of a  group gathering and captioned the photo “Fistful Family.” Despite calling it a family photo, Kevin was noticeably absent and has seemingly been out of touch with the group since 2021. Hhe did not attend Stephen’s wedding last year. Netizens speculate that Kevin’s disassociation was a result of discord with Kenneth.

When probed  on why he no longer spends time with his Fistful of Stances costars, Kevin replied, “I think having a family now is one of the reasons. The pandemic is another reason. Entering a different phase in life is yet another reason, perhaps. There are only 24 hours in a day, and you must decide how to spend that time. You will understand when you’ve moved onto a different phase in life. You will find there are some things that are no longer worth your time, and you will naturally cut out the things you find are wasteful of your time and use it elsewhere on things you find worthy.”

Known for his curt personality, the 54-year-old actor admitted to enjoying peace and quiet over crowds and noise. “I enjoy the quietude. This might be related to how I grew up. I grew up alone because my elder sister did not live with me so I am used to it. I’m not afraid of being lonely. As a matter of fact, I have to adjust to the liveliness in my household now. There is a joy to liveliness too. The point is, you choose whom to enjoy the lively atmosphere with.”

Regarding his alleged clashing with Kenneth, Kevin expressed, “We’ve known each other for many years. I think he will understand a person needs to do different things during a different point in their lives. Once he enters my phase in life, he will understand. You have to pick and choose.”

On whether he will be attending Kenneth’s upcoming wedding in December, Kevin said, “If I have to leave for an extended period of time, then it’ll be quite difficult.” As Kenneth and Roxanne Tong (湯洛雯) plan to have a destination wedding, Kevin may be unable to find time for extended travel away from his young family.

  1. It is a cryptic message. Yes, you do get busy, but you make time for the things that matter. Either he is saying Kenneth and Stephen do not matter or they had a fall out or both. Kevin says he is quiet but have you seen how chatty and energetic he is on Grace’s IG videos? I think the Fistful of Stances clan must have called Kevin out on something but he did not like. My 2 cents.

  2. It does sound like they had a falling out. That’s a shame. I agree with Kevin that as we get older, we have different priorities, especially placing family first. But gathering with good friends once in a while, and particularly for special occasions, is okay, and in fact, healthy. So unless they had an argument or disagreement of some sort, I can’t imagine why the fall out. Oh well. To each their own. Sounds like Kevin is happy with his family time anyway.

  3. His response seems very blunt and kinda hostile. I wonder if it’s to put an end to all these interview questions about whether he’s hanging out with his old gang.

But I can understand. With 3 kids in his family, he’s got his hands full. I barely have time for myself with 1 kid, let alone 3. I see my bestie once a year lololol.

    1. I saw the interview and they set 2 completely different vibes. The article sounds hostile while the interview appeared normal, as if nothing was wrong with it. I would not say that the article is making false accusations. I guess on paper, it feels quite negative.
