“Modern Dynasty” Franchise Gets a Third Installment

With a star-studded cast comprised of Charmaine Sheh (佘詩曼), Raymond Lam (林峯), Him Law (羅子溢), and Gallen Lo (羅嘉良), Hong Kong drama Modern Dynasty 2 (家族榮耀之繼承者) aired to positive reception. Due to the franchise’s success, a third installment is allegedly in the works.

Producer Tommy Leung (梁家樹), who helmed the first and second seasons, was asked about the progress of getting the third installment kicked off. He responded, “The story is only in its preliminary stages. There are still many things that need to be worked out and revised.”

Him, who had hefty roles in the first two installments, hoped to work with Charmaine again. He also wanted his wife, Tavia Yeung (楊茜堯), who starred in the first series to take part in the third installment. He said, “[Charmaine and Tavia] collaborated and starred in opposing roles in Beyond the Realm of Conscience (宮心計) and I wasn’t a part of it. I want to join in on the fun!”

Modern Dynasty 3 will retain the core essence of the previous two series, focusing on the grievances, struggles, and rivalries between wealthy families spanning multiple generations. The story will revolve around an heiress who must deal with the successes and failures of the family businesses and handle the internal disputes within the business and family. It is helmed as a modern version of Beyond the Realm of Conscience.

  1. I just finished this and the second one was not as good as the first one. The peak took too long to get to and then ended so anti-climatic. I didn’t like Raymond in this at all. Him’s character was just plain stupid. I wish Charmaine’s character was a bit more evil and Benz character, I really thought he was going to turn evil and get his revenge but changed his mind so quickly. It was just a lot of build up to nothing.

  2. This sequel is lacklustre and mediocre at best. The first series was miles better than the sequel due to plot twists and solid casts, especially Tavia who outshone the female casts as the villain in the highly-acclaimed drama. Him Law was a major disappointment here and should have been replaced by a competent actor of his age. Perhaps he should take some acting lessons from his wife…. Same goes to Candice Yu who is incredibly annoying in her current role.

  3. That was one of the worst sequels I’ve seen. The show was so predictable. Him Law as a supposed lead was a big mistake. Don’t bother with part 3 please.
