Yuan Bingyan’s Company Fined for Tax Evasion

Love and Redemption <琉璃> star, Crystal Yuan Bingyan (袁冰妍), is experiencing another career setback lately as her affiliate company, Chongqing Liyan Culture Media, is exposed for tax evasion. While Bingyan’s studio issued an apology statement on July 4 to emphasize all relevant taxes are already paid fully on time, the public still feels uneasy and believes the actress will likely take some time-off before appearing in person anytime soon.

According to independent magazine Caijing, Chongqing Liyan Culture Media was fined 978,000 Chinese yuan for CNY 1.63 million due to the company’s failure to perform its withholding and payment obligations in a timely manner. The company had used corporate funds to pay its shareholders for expenses unrelated to the production and operation of the company, which totaled CNY 8.15 million between 2019 to 2021. The company’s accounting practices were instantly red flagged by the tax bureau.

Recognizing its mistakes, Bingyan’s company deeply apologized to the public and will reflect on its mistakes to ensure taxes will be paid in strict accordance with the law from now on. Additionally, Bingyan also resigned from her company’s positions as the legal representative, executive director, and manager.

Earlier, Bingyan was frozen for more than a year by her agency H&R Century Pictures. The actress recently made her return with historical romcom My Sassy Princess <祝卿好>, and has been busy with filming projects. It appears Bingyan will have to maintain a low profile again, as previous celebrities charged with tax evasion were unable to salvage their careers.

  1. Not sure if staying a low profile will do good. The rest haven’t been successful making a comeback, not for the lack of trying or testing the waters. There have been unfavorable news about her in the past but nothing gets faster in ruining their own career than tax invasion.

Using corporate funds on unrelated expenses amounting to millions doesn’t sound like a “mistake”.

  2. Confused by the verbiage here. Is this company owned by her? Or is she just an associate of the company? Huge difference. One implicates the company (but will impact her work) and the other implicates her career which might be stalled forever.

  3. I wonder if she will be censored. I remember Deng Lun is trying to appear in the public again. Maybe she can do the same after half a year or so.

  4. The Chinese Gov would just throw these artiste under the bus to divert attention from the handling of the unset caused by the Zero Covid Policy. Their vaccine is not effective, thus they close the Country to stop their people from travelling, and they are also using this period to gain back communist control over the people… The popular artiste are the best distractions.

  5. Is something missing or not reported correctly? I’m confused why she’s responsible for this tax evasion when she didn’t do it but her company? Cnetz tried to cancel her and hold her accountable as FBB and Deng Lun, but her case is different from those 2. Unless she did involve in it like the other 2, then I can see why. All of the reports I read were about her company committed tax evasion, not her studio or herself.
